Hello everyone- just wanted to say hello (new user here) - and share my first experiences with RED cameras - the EPIC in this case. I'm a Microsoft employee, avid photo/video enthusiast, and have recently blogged (I run the Extreme Windows Blog) about the HP series of workstations (Z820, Z1) and related scenarios. When I found out about the Z820 RED Edition, I was excited, and wanted to find out more about how Windows is being used in high-end cinema productions. I've also been fascinated by RED cameras, and have wanted to shoot in 4K for quite a time now. The guys at RED were kind enough to invite me down to get some hands-on time with the RED EPIC, to tour RED Studios Hollywood, and to discuss the RED "system". I ended up with a complete RED EPIC setup overnight, and wasted no time getting to work with the camera (I read the user's manual on the flight down - a good time investment). I was surprised at how easy to use the camera was. The touch interface is great, and I was able to use Canon EF mount lenses which I use with my Canon 5D Mark III, very cool. While not all of my shots turned out, I did get some nice 4K footage to take home, and I may have access to an EPIC for a longer period of time, so I'll have some questions for you all in order to make the most of that time. I'm looking forward to shooting some destruction and water motion at 240fps in 2K mode!
