The HDx2 mounts to the RED One and accepts B4 mount 2/3" HD lenses. Unlike other adapters, it fully covers all 3k formats on the RED One and some 4K formats. It also only consumes two stops of light compared to other devices which eat more than 3.5 stops. The HDx2 is very clean, sharp & contrasty, with minimal distortion, chromatic abberation or other optical artifacts. The HDx2 is manufactured by IB/E Optics exclusively for Abel Cine Tech.

Using the HDx2 on the RED One, clients can use the excellent HD zooms commonly available at frame rates up to 60fps.

The HDx2 will be at the booth although I'm not sure we'll have it up on a camera. I'll have it at the REDuser party as well.

Has anyone used this adapter yet? I have 2 very expensive HD ENG lenses that might be very nice on my Epics for live/event shoots.

My biggest concern is about the optical quality of the whole system at 5k, 4k, 3k.

Thanks much,
Rich

Interesting

I remember years ago we were putting adapters on our 2/3" cameras for 35mm lenses... Now.... exactly the opposite

We have two adapters available and they are both quite popular.

The HDx2 covers all 3K formats and some 4K (depending on individual lens mounted to it) and eats two stops of light.
The HDx35 covers all 4K formats and some 5K (depending on individual lens mounted to it) and eats 2.5 stops of light.

Both allow B4 mount 2/3" lenses to mount to PL mount cameras. Both feature excellent color, contrast, MTF from corner to corner and other optical measures. The HDx adapters also optically correct the three-chip prism design of the B4 mount lenses to focus on the single plane of a PL mount sensor.

RED also makes a B4 to PL converter, but it is strictly for covering only the 2K and smaller formats.

I can see this being great for sports cinematography

Yes, just had a client use an HDx35 with his Fuji 22x on his EPIC and he said the results were fantastic.

Mitch,

What solutions are there to power the lens i.e. the zoom motor when attached on a Scarlet-X? I run mine with Swit's D-8161S RED compatible V-mount batteries, which have an Anton Bauer interface. Do you have any experience on whether such a combination (Battery powering camera and lens simultaneously / Camera direkt v-mount, lens through Anton Bauer) would work?

Thanks,
Brian
