Malick's "to the wonder" partial shot on Red One #0031 - premieres venice sun 9/9/12

Sorry, got the dates wrong, it premiered last sunday 9/2

There is a very long story about the shots that appear in "to the wonder" from my red one #0031...after i see the movie on monday in toronto at TIFF, i will share them with you, but it will depend on what shots make it in...if any...but i was told that some did make it in this time, unlike tree which had 99% of them cut out...

So gladly and proudly i report back to my fellow redusers with news of red one #0031 footage and maybe even some prototype epic footage within the current cut of terrence malick's "to the wonder". as you can imagine the film is visually stunning with each and every shot composed as if it was a masterpiece still photo or painting. simple things that you would never think of cutting into a film are there like reflections of the sun on carpet through weird blinds or someone's shadow across the front of a house, changing sizes to match the contour of the exterior of the brick.

i watched the movie twice, once at the premiere ( although i was 5 minutes late due to an airplane delay) and then again today at a general screening. i wil say it will probably take me three or four screenings to really understand everything in this movie, it was very deep and had many many layers as his film do.

regarding the red one footage, it cut nicely with the 35mm film, but i am not a liberty to go through where they are, maybe if i get permission, i will write about it. overall i was very pleased with the movie and i hope you will like it too.

I want to add that although it was my second time going to Toronto, the first time was while shooting my hockey movie, this time i had more time to just wander around and i have fallen deeply in love with it...so all you maple leaf fans...i get it. great city!

that's fantastic, you're one of a handful who can say you lent a paintbrush to a name like that, congratulations mate. your fincher stories are always cool but your respect and humility for Malick is inspiring.

just spent a week in your venice, now back in new york, if you ever need a hand or a backup body, I'm there.

That's great Dino. I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie.

we shot this in november of 2010, so the gold old lady is mostly resting now...but thanks for your kind words.

What is this hockey movie you speak of?

What is this hockey movie you speak of?

from june of 2005 to june of 2006 i followed the stanley cup to over 25 major events (over 500 hours of footage) such as the season opener after the strike year, the induction of cam neely into the hall of fame, messiers retirement, the kentucky derby where a horse owned by one of the philly players was racing, to london england for the first time since 1892 and to game 5,6,7 of the scf that year...those events were part of a documentary that cuts into a narrative script to create a mockumentary or as we like to call it a hockumentary...."saving stanley" - approved by the NHL and HHOF...in fact i was at the HHOF yesterday with phil "the keeper of the cup" pritchard catching up and shooting some pick-ups...

the movie was completely in the can, and on the way to being finalized when i received red one #0031, i chose to focus on that instead of finishing the movie for the time being...the lessons i have learned as a film maker over the last 5 years working with...well you know who, i certainly talk about enough here, have changed me as a film maker and the project will be much better as a result of the delay...after being in toronto i am going to try real hard to have it premiere there next year...ill keep you all posted as you are my family and friends.

This is very cool. I personally adored Tree of Life, so I'm even more excited now to see this. It's compelling to hear that such an exacting artist as Terence Malick is intermixing film with RED (and Red One at that).

Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see it.

remember this was nov 2010, spiderman had not even received their epic cameras yet, there were a few prototype epics at the time that were just coming to life, so yes the red one was all there was at the time, however mine in particular had been upgraded to the x chip and had also received the ssd module at that time, so it wasnt like it was the 8 gig cards and the very first chip...social network and girl with the dragon tattoo where both shot with the same exact technology...and they were brilliant. moreover, the alexa had not really been delivered yet so it was film, f35 or red one...and for being a foreigner, from greek decent (read racial profiling) hand held without permits in the paris subway system there was really only one choice. a red one in a doctors bag using a battery belt clip in a backpack...malick called me a terriorist, because of the cables coming out of the bag...it is truly a "wonder" that i did not get caught.

WOW. This is one of the coolest filming stories I've heard in a while. Sounds hair-raising AND fun. Can't wait to see those shots!
