  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Using Scarlet with BM's Hyperdeck Shuttle

Does anyone have this combination working yet? I understood that the Hyperdeck could now start/stop based on HD-SDI flags but I can't seem to get this to work with Scarlet. Being able to record DNxHD proxies will save a ton of time!
 
I used the RED Scarlet with the BM HyperDeck Shuttle.

You have to download the new firmware to be able to do automatic stop/start.
The new .mov compressed settings has issues and drops frames. :(
 
Thanks Poj, I do have the latest BM firmware installed (3.01 for Windows, theres a 3.02 for Mac but it just adds Mountain Lion) and have the settings on the BM to trigger via SDI... but nothing happens... what settings did you have your camera in?

BTW I use the BM primarily as a record deck for live events and have no issues with dropped frames, the image was rock solid and worked well. I understand that some SSD's might not be fast enough for the sustained rates the Shuttle needs, and therein could be the dropped frame problem. I have an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD and so far it's been great... other than trying to get it to work with the Scarlet :(
 
I've got this combo working.. haven't had any issues with dropped frames. I've shot exclusively over HD-SDI in DNxHD .mov. Start-stop works after starting and stopping the recorder manually, if I recall correctly you may have to do that on the Scarlet as well. Then it seems to get it. Just be careful if you power down, you'll have to do it again. I updated my Shuttle firmware about 3 weeks ago so I'm not sure what version it is. Scarlet is running 3.3.3. Also I have set it to external record only-- have you tried that?
 
How much record time do you get if using say a 120gb drive with the Hyperdeck II?

A question guys

How is the shuttle handling file names. I understand the hyberdeck doesn't mirror the Red SSD file names . So are you using this as a one way process or are you reconnecting files manually when going final ?
 
For 1080p work I think the quality is better with REDLogFilm than it is from the R3Ds. I've been very happy with my Shuttle. Only two things I hate is: 1) you can't use it to copy footage to a computer 2) it only supports Mac formatted HDDs which requires extra software on all your computers to read.

I guess there's new firmware coming soon that allows for exFAT which can and is read/formatted easily by Mac and PC. I've always had MacDrive on my PC's as I run into Mac centric drives and files all the time.
 
Sometimes you have to hit record and stop on the hyperdeck once after everything is plugged in and up and running. Then the HD-SDI trigger record seems to work just fine. At least that has been our experience. ;)

Yes, Exactly. Once you do it the first time, it works for the rest except when you reboot either one of the machines. I do have OCZ Vertex 3 AND 4 and both of them do drop frames :(

Uncompressed or DNxHD?
 
I noticed they are selling the Hyeprdeck Shuttle 2 and if you look around used or at third party sales folks are selling just the Hyperdeck Shuttle. Haven't followed this product... is there a difference?
