Hi everyone,

I know some of you probably already saw it: it already did 13 million views since august...

I wanted to share this video on the forum sooner but I was busy.

My brother and I did the VFX, and I did the color grading.

Now that it aired last week in the season premiere of the returning show Beavis & Butt-Head, it reminds me I never posted it on this forum.

First Of the Year (Equinox) was shot on RED-MX
director: Tony T.
DP: Sylvain Séchet
RED cam operator: Benjamin Groussin
Prod: HK Corp

Director Tony T. edited in FCP in ProRes. Then we XML the cuts into Premiere Pro CS5 (where we kept it offline), and open this PPro project into AE. In AE we were able to re-link the ProRes right to the R3Ds.

All VFXs and color grad were done in AE, on the original R3Ds, all render in one pass.

enjoy it on the director's Vimeo:

Awesome job, man. I love that video. The VFX are just downright cool.

All I have to say is I thought this video was so awesome that I created a thread for it labeled exactly what I thought of it ....."Mind Blowing"

Fantastic work!

Thank you guys for the nice comments!

The video First of the Year (Equinox) is nominee for the 54th Grammy Awards (coming up February 12th, in L.A.)… Very exciting :)

Since then, the director Tony T. did another music video for Skrillex (released on Christmass), shot on Epic this time (I didn' work on that one):

I suggest you guys check out the director's website for more cool videos:

Digging up this old post... I'm happy to announced that my brother and I are nominated (along with director Tony T. Datis) in the Best Visual Effects category at the MTV Music Video Award 2012 for our work on this Skrillex video :)

For the more techie of you, check out the Q&A on FXguide.com

For guys like us, it is a surprise and an honor to find our name along such great VFX studios... Thanks to Tony for having brought us on his project, with such a great vision that made our effects looking good.

By the way, our new website is up... http://dekabrothers.com

Enjoy!

Hope you guys win, I would say that's one of the best videos I've seen. I would put it in at least in the top 3 for 2012.

Julien, Congrats! I toured with Skrillex as his videographer. I did his first music vid, "Rock N Roll" and now I've stepped up to the ranks of the RED community. I'm aiming to be in your shoes hopefully soon. Awesome work!

Thanks for your support guys, greatly appreciate!

Thanks Jason, but I think you mean you'll be in Tony's shoes :)

Tony is the director of the video (actually he directed all 4 narrative Skrillex music videos), I'm just the VFX guy on that one.

And by the way...

At the end, we won the 2012 MTV MVA for Best Visual Effects...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_MTV_Video_Music_Awards#Best_Visual_Effects_in_a_Video

I'd like to say thanks to DP Sylvain Séchet and on set Special FX supervisor Guillaume Chapeleau... What they shot, what they brought from set was the good stuff. It was for us a matter of enhancing what was already great, rather than being in a "we'll fix it in post" situation.

And of course, Tony's vision is probably what deserves the most this price.

Thanks again for your support guys!

Julien
