First time shooting with a SCARLET, shooting all 60fps and 120fps. Taking into consideration the crop factor of the sensor at these frame rates, what would you guys suggest are the best lenses to use in order to capture tight action, hands, feet, line of scrimmage, iso's on players? Shooting sports with still lenses (like on DSLRs) comes with compromises, so while I know what a 70-200mm might get me, I'm more interested in what cine-glass options or even HD ENG lens with an adapter options exist, if any?

Thanks for the help.

I'm with Bob on this 100%; do a couple of quick tests at 2k and 1k before you go into the job...

In my opinion, 1k looks worse than Canon DSLR 720p/60fps footage...Actually, it looks like Canon DSLR 720p footage but with a strong blur filter added to mask aliasing (not saying that's what Scarlet/Epic does, just that it's really, really soft/blurry.) Other than that, 2k is fine especially for web/dvd/1080p...

Sharpest Lens you can find. Anything that has veiling flare is out. CA will destroy 1K.

I have shot with the 11-16 Tokina. Too soft for 1K. So is any other wide lens i have tried. I think the best was the 25mm Ziess 2.0 ZE glass.

85MM 1.4 Nikon AIS looked great I was shooting surfers on the beach. Well great for 720p.

Get a great super16 lens like the Canon 8-64. It is very sharp, and is great for 1K/2K work.

A lot of people say 1K isn't sharp. I say their lenses are not sharp enough, but when they are at 4K you can't notice it. At 1K you can.

Also shoot the lowest ISO you can and the Lowest RedCode you can. You want to fight the noise back before you get to post. I would not go over 400ASA in 1K.

Cheers
Matt

Matt could very well be right in his "need sharper glass" assessment... particularly with the Super16 glass recommendation. I only shot 1k with nikkor AI glass, which is both still and full frame, and I was also at 2.8 (since I was running 1/250 shutter for ~180deg at 120fps)... S16 glass isn't all that expensive either (if you've already got the PL mount, you may as well get some).
