  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LACIE 4big quadra 12 To or G-TECH g-speed Q 12 To ?

We have 3 Lacie 4Big 8TB and are very happy with them. People seem to have issues with lacie, but, with more than 30+ D2/Quadras and counting, half a dozen Little Big Disks/Rugged drives and the said 3x 4big 8tb, I have only good things to say about Lacie drives. Only had 2 issues with Lacie: One was when I got delivery of my 3rd 4Big, which was not functioning and was immediately replaced by them. The other was with their early Power adaptors, which had poor connections on the early D2s and Quadras. Many people were reporting drive failures that were simply these power adaptors not connecting properly. Helped a good half dozen colleagues that where already cursing the drives because of this!

I would avoid Lacie like the plague, I just recently went through a horrible headache with a Lacie 2Big USB3 in Windows in which it was constantly mounting and unmounting and was slower than expected. I finally just purchased a Stardom chassy from OWC, placed the drives from the Lacie and have had no issues since and faster speeds. This was my first Lacie raid, but I have also had multiple issues with single Lacie drives while working for/with several facilities and I have heard and assisted with numerous problems with them (Mac mostly) on small productions.

G-Tech has always been reliable and I do have a 4TB G-Tech raid that has been rock-solid. I know a former co-worker that is still using a couple of 500GB G-Tech's from almost 4 years ago without issues. My personal choices now are either G-Tech or rolling my own.

Any opinions - experiences and advices between the : 2 x G-Speed es Pro (24Tb) and a iR8 6G SAS Expander (24Tb) ?.

Lacie 4big 12 TB in Raid5 made me loss 1 month work...

Good that I had the originals backuped but I'll have to do all the tranfert/synch again.

Lacie Said "We are sorry but we can't do anything, Sometimes Raid5 has a internal system problem" (not the drive's failure).
Since then only work with two (or more) Raid0 hard drives.

Pat

Had great results with G-tech.
