Can someone from RED please post an official installation / use / approved lens list document and explain what the little included rectangular bushing is for. I received the product without any support documentation and don't seem to be able to find on the RED website.

Thanks Brent. No harm in just leaving it permanently installed, correct?

Anybody tried the older Summicron 35mm 1:2.0 ? IMHO it should fit, even if it's wider than 50mm.

And, what about the current 35mm Summarit?

I had a factory installed updated OLPF frame to reduce the gate flare so not sure why I got another one in the Leica M mount box. Is the included frame the same product or a version 3.0 that would replace the one installed by RED? Other than the generic documentation on the OLPF frame, is there anything specific to the Leica Mount as requested in the OP?

I picked up a 35mm f/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton Classic for my M9. It has a beautiful vintage look. Might be worth getting the mount just to play with it on the Epic. This 35, btw, doesn't extend past the mount.

This shot of the family is from the M9 / Voigtlander 35mm @ 1.4.

Hmmm.

The Nokton 35mm f/1.2 I had hoped for doesn't even remotely fit...

This kits are not sent in the knowledge of which camera they will be installed in, so any one no matter of what camera they have they'll get the same exact kit.

However it would be a good idea for RED to specify this detail, so to insure that either those that have had the recent upgrade on their cameras know if they can/should leave it alone, or if they to, need to remove it, even if recently installed, and install themselves the new one, I have not installed the one received with the Leica Mount kit.

There is a difference between the new OLPF port bushing to avoid flare and the frame that holds it. The frame stayed the same when the port bushing got exchanged.

The Leica-Mount comes with a new frame only. Don't know what's the difference, it looks the same to my eyes, but I'm gonna change it if REd says so, of course. The new OLPF port bushing will stay.

@Christopher: Good to know it doesn't extend past the mount. But to me the bokeh looks quite a bit busy. Did you shoot wide open? Does it get softer when closed down a stop? The Voigtländers have a lot of blades for aperture, so it should stay round. I know that good bokeh in wides is rare, but some Leicas have it… Unfortunately they don't fit.

P.M. I've found it out: it's a tad thinner than the old one. Probably to avoid any pressure on the OLPF if the back of the lens comes very close.

P.P.M. I'll now test my old Minolta Rokkors too, there is an adapter for them to Leica-M. None of them will come too close, since they are calculated for SLR. Looking forward to the Rokkor 58mm 1:1.2 …

Anyone from RED care to point me to the Leica Mount documentation and approved lens list?

The doc is in the store, but an approved lens list doesn't exist. Word is that any lens which doesn't protrude behind the mount is fine (check at infinity!).

Most wide angles for original M-mount won't fit. All SLR glass for which there is an adapter works fine, like my beautiful old Minolta Rokkors, plus Leica-R, of course.

I'm looking to buy the Leica mount and some Lenes for a up coming shoot in Africa any suggestions? I was thinking about a cannon mount because of the use of the controls but I rather use a PL lens but I want to keep the camera small and light
anyone have any recommendations?

thanks

In case you need any wide angles and don't want to swap mounts in the middle of the jungle, go Canon.

The Leica mount is good quality, but a specialty item only taking longer lenses.
