  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If it were a car you'd call it a barn-find... With gratitude to Brent, and to Sam and of course Alan at REL, I'm more than a little surprised to be typing that RED ONE 'EDISON' is now safely in my hands, after a life in purgatory stuck in an anonymous warehouse. It's an early 'named only' camera, in a time-warp state both physically and in firmware.

There's more to its story that can't be told, (to me at least :) ) - suffice to say I'm very geekily excited to be custodian of my own slice of RED history.

Why is there more for sale? I was interested when I first saw his post wondering about the lack of a serial number...

I wouldn't know about the used market for Red Ones... that seems to go in fits and starts, very unpredictable.

This one is a VERY unusual case, not a typical used camera. It would be hard to ascribe a value to it. Something of a headache for insurance purposes, but I'll get over it.

Its currently in the hands of Red Europe for a little check-up, but the guys there commented that it was the cleanest Red One they'd seen in a long time :)

To add to the fun the camera has a yellow-engraved Red 18-50 with it. Is it weird to have nostalgia about something only five years ago? Shows how fast the tech world moves I guess.

My favourite geek-pleasing weirdness so far is metadata containing no PIN#, media serial, redcode info etc :)

Very cool stuff, wish I could find a collectors item like that!

Nice find, congrats!

So....

EDISON is on its way home to the Red family. I'm grateful to Jarred for his honest communication and fair dealings. I'm firing my brain from making random purchasing decisions from now on though. Quit while you're ahead. :hand:

So what do you mean, you bought the camera used somewhere and are sending it back to RED after Jarred contacted you/bought back, or you bought this early camera from Jarred?

I found it elsewhere by sheer chance, bought it, and it turned out to be of some interest to RED for sentimental reasons, although not a super-valuable prototype. :)

how much did they buy them back for? i had no idea, in such a short time, there is a collectors market for 5 year old camera's.
