  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED versus CANON

I think this is a silly comparison, partly because it's a year old, partly because the shooting conditions are suspect, and partly because the final color-correction is an unknown factor. Having had to match different cameras many times during final color, I can promise you that color between cameras is not that big a deal, assuming the material is shot well.

Both the Red One and Red Epic/Scarlet have plenty of exposure range and work fine, if the person running it knows what they're doing. I think it's been established on several web tests that the Canon DSLRs have remarkable low-light ability, but that's not the be-all/end-all. And their 8-bit design and JPEG compression is a huge limitation that really ties your hands in post.

Given the choice, I would recommend every time that the client shoot on Red over a Canon DSLR. The only possible exception would be battle conditions or a hidden-camera guerilla situation.
