  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Very exited about the 2000ISO. Just got word from Dhl that our Epic-M is back in Norway after the free upgrade program.
Not often I wish my holiday to end early ;-)
 
DR and resolution King... "Cleanest sensor you have ever seen"... This sounds more Epic than ever.

You make just the best Digital Cinema Camera... Then, you make it far better.

Phil,

This could be the tagline for a great RED ad. Thousand images come in mind.

BTW going from a clean 800 to a 2000 asa image is a 1 1/3 stop gain. I ll be happy with 14 1/3 clean stops.
My speculation on delivery for the first Dragon sensor Epic X cameras is december of 2013.

I just love this ride more and more! I look very much forward to the Dragon update.

When I first heard about it I guessed the Dragon upgrade would be around 10.000$ (concidering the MX sensor alone cost us 8500$ when we had to repair it), so getting both the new sensor and the electronic parts + labor (and I believe one-way shipping) for just 6.000$ is VERY reasonable imho.

Getting it to look at 2000 ISO like the MX at 800 is fantastic. That's All I need, really! Great job, RED TEAM!

By the way, just shot some low frame rate (1fps) with the Epic for a TV Commercial. Guys, do take into consideration slower frames per second or longer exposure times for some 6K Time Lapses! The Epic footage at 1fps looked great, but I can only imagine shooting what I shot today, with 16 stops native DR and at 5 seconds intervals.... It would be surreal, unique, Epic!

By the way, big, big congratulations on the Epic performance on Total Recall. Simply stunning! Keep on pushing Red team!

Anyhoo, I hope Dragon brings with it improvements like faster & more user-friendly black shading, lower resolutions without windowing (better yet, let the user decide whether to window the sensor or not), much better low light/natural light performance and something that shuts up all those folks complaining about RED's color performance.

Yeah, realistically what can we expect though?

5k at 24fps at 6:1 maybe? With greater dynamic range than the MX... but how much work does a Scarlet need to get to there?

More than $6,000 worth I'd say...

It might make more sense to buy a new Scarlet brain with the dragon sensor and then have two cameras.
