  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pleaaaaaaase. It's so easy. My transvideo does it automaticaly. I'll buy you guys whatever you want, candy, flowers, a spam can full of tracers, Warn locking hubs, carbide tipped roughing endmills, whatever you want........
 
Another build, another no-show for flip/flop. The "sensor flip option not enabled" disclaimer has even been removed from the release notes.
 
it's extremely disappointing.......especially with tha amount of 3D being shot on the EPIC......not to mention they are tentpole movies!!

what will it take for red to add this simple option?

I gave up. I talked to everyone that I could. Maybe someone will have a better answer.
 
It's disturbing they removed the usual disclaimer : ' no sensor flip in this version'
I get the feeling that the firmware code of the camera is in a 'spaghetti code state', and no one wants to touch that area until a significant rewrite is done.
OR : the non-reprogram-able hardware/FPGA has been found to not support it reliably.... I hope that's not the case .
 
Please, sensor reverse scan, not just flip the LCD image. Matching jello artifacts is rather tricky sometimes.
 
Question for people who want the monitor flip for 3d shoots:
If you are shooting 3D, are you experiencing much of a problem from one of the cameras exposing the sensor in the opposite direction than the other ?
So if you pan past a telephone pole, does the top of it tilt away or towards you as the L and R eye 'jello' in opposite directions?
( the rolling shutter would change the scan line disparity effectively tilting the image in Z top to bottom )

Maybe what I'm saying is that just flipping the monitor output is not going to help this situation at all.
Not a problem shooting static scenes.
You guys shoot motion, I would assume ;)



Come on RED team, we really need this asap. What's up and is anything going to happen with this? Please allow us to flip the monitor. And also please allow for real timelapse..

My rig uses an underslung camera configuration - resulting in a flopped image from the reflection side of the glass (and not a flipped image). In this configuration, both sensors have an identical vertical orientation and scan in the same direction. So - sensor flip is not a requirement for me. Monitor flip and flop IS desperately needed however - as my cameras are both mounted upside down (which is common).
 
reversing the scan direction of the sensor is not at all necessary and probably complicated from a software / hardware standpoint. As long as your cameras are oriented such that both sensors are scanning from top to bottom (or bottom to top) relative to the subject, maximum temporal error is reduced to one half of one line time, which is an infinitesimally small duration. If you are using 1/48th shutter and shooting let's say 5K 2:1, 1/2 of one line time is 0.00000407 seconds. I challenge you to find a subject moving fast enough for this temporal error to be noticeable.

I'm actually hoping I can flip one camera upside-down for closer SBS interaxial.
Also looking into making a couple of 90 degree lens relay mounts to get the lens's touching each other for even closer SBS. Crazy idea?
I'm not seeing mirror rigs compact enough for 3rd world run and gun 2 person shooting with really wide glass.

one camera upside down in side by side is exactly what you do not want to do. That would make the maximum temporal error one frame time, or 1/48th of a second which is a very noticeable problem. Pawel's solution is far better. 90 degree lens relay might be ok, but I'm not sure if it would work optically.
