I posted this back in May at the Bugs / Problems / Help! parts of the forum with no response. I have been shooting all this week with the RED using the 128GB SSD's with no problems...EXCEPT...when the SSD hit the number "10" for media left, all hell breaks loose...it drops frames and it even locks the camera when recording...you can't get it to stop recording ....even though all it is doing is dropping frames like crazy. My solution has been not to even come close to "10".

Anyone has the similar problem? The camera just came back from a clean bill of health. Everything works beautifully...never locks, drops or anything...except when 10 is reached with the SSD.

This weekend while shooting with my RED ONE and my new RED ONE SSD MODULE I encountered a weird issue. The camera just came back from RED with a clean health inspection and nothing during this weekend shoot went wrong with it. Also, this is the first time I used the SSD's REDMAG.

While shooting, I noticed that I was coming real close to using up the card. I normally like to leave a little buffer at the end of any drive I write to...but this time I needed to get a shot and my AC had left the other cards at base camp 5 miles away. With the number "2" displaying in the MEDIA box, I decided to take a quick shot and the camera locked. It locked for about 30 seconds. When it came out of it, it displayed over 160 dropped frames. All of the shots prior had not displayed dropped frames. I tried to take another shot and the same thing happened. This is when I decided to drop the issue and just drive back to get another card.

I knew that all in all, my last two takes where corrupted, yet when I inspected the footage yesterday at our offices, I noticed that not only my last two were corrupted but also two back... a total of 4 shots. Is there a rule with these REDMAG's one should follow...other than bring plenty?

Just discovered that if I try to do a Log & Transfer using FCP 7 or even try to open the Mag in Premiere, it crashes our editing system.

After many frustrating hours of trying to salvage all the footage on the card, we finally thought about making a copy of the card on an external drive and then remove all the folders with dropped frames .... which were the last 4 or 5 shots...what a headache....regardless though, the rest of the footage looked stunning (like always) and very worth the scare and pain in our glutes at the end of the day.

Still wondering if anyone has similar experiences with the Mags and the RED ONE MX

Interesting. I know anytime I'm able I never let media fill up past 80% it's capaciity. So ill reload at 20% every time. Just a hard drive rule of thumb I was taught a while back.

I don't like to fill my drives also...I always leave about a 20% buffer...but sometimes it is hard to do this when you are on the field and there are hours and hours of shots...filling out a ticket is a good idea.

Maybe it is just my camera and SSD...maybe it is universal and no one has noticed it...It took me a long time to notice it...it just happened as I filled the card.

I have filled the CF card and the RED DRIVE to capacity with no issues...recording just stops and end of story...and this usually happens if I am not paying attention as I don't make a habit of letting the drive shut down in the middle of a take.

Coco, I said to fill a support ticket because my experience with filling up the media with the RED ONE (RED Drive and CF) and with the EPIC-X (REDMAGs) is the same you have had 'till now: No Problem, the recording just stops. So this sounds to me like a problem with your Side SSD or your REDMAGs. By the way, have you tried if this happens with all your 128GB REDMAGs?

Cheers!
