  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Daniel, my Scarlet purchase has brought in more work than expected in LA. I'm also shooting more of the type of gigs that I want to shoot as opposed to the gigs I was landing with a dslr and an hvx a year ago. I'm very happy with my decision. I have invested about 28k so far. There are some hidden costs but working in RAW is invaluable. It has changed the way I shoot... forever. Exposure has a VERY different meaning now than it did with over compressed video footage. I have a feeling that upgrading to dragon will not be more expensive than buying a scarlet with the Dragon sensor installed. I guess you never really know, but that would be my assumption based on the way RED has treated past customers and their upgrading programs. I'd say, if you know what you are doing and are ready to step to the next lvl, do it now.

Thanks for everyone's comments. Working with Nar I'm putting together my scarlet and rig. Will be ordering next week. I'm torn between the RED Zoom and primes vs the Zeiss CP.2 primes. But thats a different topic.

Its easy to say that a RED or any other camera won't make you a better filmmaker... I hear that here alot. But it will sure inspire me to be a better filmmaker. And what's wrong with that? But Lorenzo is right about buying now. It's just that Dragon has 15 stops! I want it now.

My issue with the primes is related to Zeiss being full sensor and able to accommodate a larger sensor in the future. I'm worried about RED glass not being able to fit with a larger RED sensor at some point when they come down the road. Glass is forever, right?? As far as the look I like both. I wish I could afford both. :nonod:

If you have the money now, jump on it now. It could be close to another year before you can get your hands on a Scarlet Dragon. Epic upgrades are first ( Starting late this year), then all of the current Scarlet-X Owners. So you're looking at probably 5K-10k current owners getting their upgrades before you can just buy it with the Dragon.

In my experience and in my research, the RED glass is much better quality for the money. CP.2s are great, but for the same price or less, I'd go with the RED glass.
