Hi I am using my scarlet happy ever after. But i wonder if there is an option to record 16bit redcode instead of 12 bit, in the camera menus?
Because with simple math i figured out that scarlet shoots 12 bit instead of 16bit as announced.
1 frame of 6:1 red code footage is 2.2 Megabytes.
2.2 MB is 18,454,937.6 bits
Compression ratio is 6:1 so uncompressed data is 18,454,937.6 times 6 , which is 110729626 bits.
And then when we divide this data to pixel number we will find the bits per pixel which is the color data.
4K red scarlet frame is 4096 x 2160 which is 8847360 pixels.
So lets divide the data bits to pixels: 110729626 / 8847360 which is 12,5155556
So 12,5 bits per pixel. 0.5 is probably the metadata.
So as we can see my footage is originally captured as 12 bit. Which makes scarlet a 12bit camera not a 16bit camera.
Is this a default thing or is there an option to change it that i don't know?
Thanks.
