  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Allstar A-Mount Rocks!

Thanks Tom! Just sent them an email - can't wait to get my hands on one of these to start rocking my Nikons. They've been neglected lately.

Approx. how long did it take you to get yours? Is there a long lead time on these items?

Brian, I just listed some prices in the post above to Joseph. You can only get the A-Mount direct from Allstar. This is their website: http://allstar-cine.myweb.hinet.net/. Or you can email Tom (Allstar) at: allstar.cine@gmail.com

Hope that helps...
Tom

Tom I have a LARGE collection of Contax glass, a growing set of M42s, and even some PL glass now. It would be too expensive to Leitax all my Contax glass, so I am seriously leaning towards cinemodding all the stills glass and rocking them with the All-Star mount. I already have one CY All Star adapter, and it just gives the lens a very "PL" look. With additional cine-modding, the All Star mount lets these still lenses live side by side with PL glass on a big shoot.

Thanks for sharing your experiences so openly, and continuously! Been very helpful.

Bear in mind also the A mouth adaptor improves the mount so it easy to mount the lens and is repeatable. Though the Stills lens mount stays in place its not stronger per say but is much easier to work with on a day to day basis.

Glad to hear that you are ordering, Brian...you will love it! Delivery depends on exactly what inventory they have on hand...if it is in stock you should have things in just a few days. Sometimes things get backordered because of high demand, and then it can be a couple weeks, but Allstar's manufacturing usually catches up pretty fast.

This is a great point, Dave! The flanges of the A-Mount adapters are much stronger and more durable than the metal that still lens mounts are made of. If you attach the A-Mount adapter "permanently" (comes off with an allen head set screw) to the lens, then the actual lens mount sees very little wear and the A-Mount adapter gets all the connection/disconnection wear and tear.

Tom (Allstar) is a working DP, with a new baby. I think he is basically a one-man company, so I'm sure he gets overwhelmed sometimes. Try shooting him another email, Daniel...he has always been very responsive in the past. Make sure you use the Gmail address: allstar.cine@gmail.com

I sent them an email a few weeks ago with no response... Not a good sign...
I'd guess it got caught by a filter or something, because they've always been quick to respond to me as well, and I'm a very new customer. Definitely try sending it again.

WOW Tom, I think you are the biggest fans of Allstar! Thank you very much for your warming support and recommend.
And yes you are right, we are small company. Most works are done by myself, although there are some people helping me, but I am the only one who can answer and solve some technical problems. Sometimes I am too busy to reply emails, but won't over 1 week. If I don't reply in 1 week, it might be the email problem-spam etc.

Hi Daniel,I replied email to this email address: camerapilot@xxxxx.xxx on July 6th.
anyway, I emailed again right now. thank you.

Tom

You are very welcome, Tom! I just want to let people know how great your products are, and share some information and photos about our experiences with them. Allstar Cine products have really made my job a lot easier and helped my students produce some great looking films. I love the careful thought that you put into things...you come up with some very innovative solutions! Hopefully this exposure (no pun intended, lol) will help more people discover your awesome products.

Best,
Tom
