  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC / SCARLET Firmware 3.3

Great update!!! Love the new features.

No white or 1/2 screens so far.

But, with my Scarlet there's a new problem.

With SDI disabled, and HDMI at 24 Hz or 60 Hz, clean - there are trails on screen when you move.

It's like an acid trip.

This did not occur with the 3.2.17 build.

I tried giving the HDMI top priority over the LCD, but that didn't solve the problem.

The sound does come out of the HDMI now.

Note: in Preview mode, maybe ok, or very slight trails, hard to tell.

In Menu mode, definitely visible trails.

In Overlay mode, possibly some slight trails.

And Clean mode has the worst trails for some reason?

Edit - may need to rethink this, the trails are real and observable on the monitor, but when I increased the lighting and tried to record them thru hdmi capture, I was unable to see the trails.

Will investigate later when I'm not tired.

Amazed at all the new features. Glad to see absolute frame grade option. This was exactly what I had asked for a while back. Good to know you guys are hearing even the small requests... I'll be using this feature tomorrow, so this is perfect timing. Thank you Red.

Just tried shooting some HDRx with the new BETA build and the LCD monitor was behaving really funky.

It was playing some frames normally (live) then some frames that were already recorded and then it was returning to live feed for a few frames. This was happening on a constant loop. However, when I checked the R3D later on REDCINE, it was fine.

I got that too in the previous build, and this one. Not sure what it really is, but it's only a problem during live monitoring.

Cool, I have the new firmware crashing:
- program one of the new soft keys on the touch screen to Playback Previous Clip
- record a few seconds in 4K
- now touch that soft key
- "Error loading clip" with a disco going lcd

at a certain point I got it to crash the camera, needed to switch it off to return normal.

regards,
Erwin

That's definitely a bug. The 'Playback Previous Clip' action is intended for when you are in playback and should not be invoked when previewing live data.

If you want a quick way to review your last clip, you should use the 'Playback/Preview: Toggle' or 'Go to: Playback' action

I had something similar happen with me and the soft keys, I set it up go to RAW and the camera just shut off without notice. Had to turn it on and everything was fine.

There's still some hot swap issues with the bricks and REDvolt in the side handle. All 4 but 1 REDvolt can swap with the bricks. No issue when you test this with the AC adaptor though.

My Epic audio is not working after this update to 3.3.3 - No levels, no little colored track button when I plug a mic in - nothing. Was working fine this morning with a Sanken CS1 cabled directly in. Did I miss something in the settings?

This video was great.
It takes the appreciation for the new builds/fixes to an instant visual level.
It also allows you to compete with all the other video blogs floating around.
Cheers.

Dumb question - but did you make sure to enable the audio after the upgrade?

No, great question. I hope it's something that simple. I am no longer finding a check box for "Audio Record Enable". Just the Settings/AudioVideo/Audio Channels where 1/2 are set to Cam Analog. No "Link" boxes are checked.

In the Settings/AudioVideo/Audio Control panel with 4 tabs, I click on the Volume Out tab and both Cam channels say Active. I look at another tab, go back to the Volume Out and both say Mute. Without changing anything I look at some other menus, come back to Volume Out tab and one says Mute, the other Active. They keep changing. But all four channels remain grey on the screen.
