I'm wondering what the experience is with the BlackMagic Ultrastudio Pro along with Premiere CS 6. What I'm thinking is that this would be a good I/O solution for a 2009 MacPro (4,1) and Premiere. I would also like to get something that would let me use Resolve with an HD-SDI monitor for color correction. Anyone using this and care to share their experience?
I know it's USB 3.0, so I'm thinking this card would let me connect it. One more detail, we also have ordered Avid Symphony 6 and Blackmagic says it's compatible with it, so that would be a bonus.
Mostly interested in editing R3Ds natively in Premiere CS6 then CC'ing in Resolve.

I have an Ultrastudio 3D via thunderbolt and right now it's a pain in a$$ with R3Ds and Premiere CS6. With "transmit" you are supposed to be able to monitor using any IO devices but the problem is that with Red footage you are working at 4K + and there are zero options to tell the BlackMagic box to monitor at 1080p in the driver or Premiere. Basically if you check the blackmagic device in transmit and you have a 4K sequence it's not going to work. The only way I can use my UltraStudio is with a 1080p sequence so if I import 4K R3Ds you see them at 1:1 resolution in 1080p - in other words it's very zoomed-in and then you have to scale your clips down which takes a lot of power.

I'm not sure if this will ever be added as a feature but it should.

So 1080 res would be fine with me. I don't need a 4k timeline. How is playback at 1080? What resolution are you playing back the R3Ds and what kind of performance do you get?

Good to know. I'm looking at some BM stuff but might look elsewhere now. I have a Matrox MXO2 Mini that outputs 1080p with a 4K timeline using Transmit. Works exactly how I hoped. Hopefully BM can update a drive or FW to get that working too.

Playback is fine at 1080p, very smooth.. The R3Ds have to be on a 4k timeline and that's the problem. For now I can't use the ULtrastudio with R3Ds. I only use it if I'm editing ProRes 1080p.
