  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon Mount

For Nikon manual Iris Lenses Jarek has one and Allstar has one. I believe both companies have a solution for Nikon G also. It would be great to hear about Deleivey of a Red Electronic Nikon mount.

AFAIK, last official word is that the RED "smart" Nikon mount would be ready end of July. All I know is it can't get here soon enough!

In the mean time, there are other "dumb" solutions which have iris control for G lenses. Jacek (OptiTek) has a nice one. There's a couple others out there too...

Dumb!!!???

Dumb!!!???

:wink5:

I wouldn't exactly call it "dumb"-the iris control mechanism with calibrating scale and gear is pretty clever:wink5: If I may say so myself...
Besides what is the advantage of touch screen iris adjustment? It's always easier to reach for the gear and turn the ring.... We can try to do a speed test and see:laugh:
They are in stock and ready to ship BTW

and which available mounts are RED approved and won't void the warranty on your $40K camera?

I have Jacek's mount too! It's FANTASTIC! He's a great guy! He walked me through everything on the phone. It's flawless... no issues, RED approved! Good deal too!

Thanks Elsie.

There were actually two original OEM Nikon mounts for Red One - I made them both. First one was a straightforward adaptation of an actual Nikon mount, while the second and current one that Red sells has the super strong stainless steel locking ring/lever that is also in our PosiLock for Epic/Scarlet. I think it is so strong that if you dropped your camera, the lens would break before the mount - and sometimes I wonder if I should have designed in a failure point so it would be the other way around, but no . . .

I liked Doug's mount a lot for our R1... Doug, is your new one approved by Red? (aka will it void the warrenty?)

Red has not made any comment on my Nikon mount for Epic/Scarlet as far as I know.

RED designed the EPICs and SCARLETs to make swapping mounts much easier. I just got one of Doug's mounts. Have not had a chance to really play but like most R1 owners, we did not have out cameras without one of his mounts nearby.

This new mount looks very nice.. Will put something together soon

Jay
