The new Schneider IRNDs are M.I.A. at all retailers, and I know they were highly recommended on Epic.

Anybody have other suggestions for ND 1.2 and above?

I don't usually quote myself but here goes:

I just spoke to the engineer at Schneider who designs their filters and he told me they hope to be out of backorder by Cine Gear Expo time in May.

He also tells me that Platinum IRND grads are on the drawing board, hopefully to be in available this time next year.

Thanks Scott! However, that doesn't solve my problem this week. :-) Any this-week solutions?

Interesting. Thanks guys! Do they reject as much/enough IR at high levels (1.5, 1.8)? Are they super-reflective (the Panchros were crazy for this) causing double-reflections?

I have a set of Tiffen 4x5.65 IRND's. They look perfect. 1.5-2.1

Is it worth getting the Formatt ND filters with hot mirror built in. Any advice would be great as they are alot more expensive than the regular NDs

Mike are you saying the Formatt NDs *are* good for the Epic? I recall seeing some tests done where the IR was clearer than on the S Platinums.

I love my Formatt set, not wanting to change right now if it's not critical. The IRND 1.2, also.

Aren't the Schneider Platinums new IR filters? I'm asking this relative to the 'coloration' that some say they see....

The Platinums seem to be rather neutral, no?

We very recently did a pretty extensive test comparing Shcneider Platinum vs. Schneider "Tru-Cut IR" vs. Tiffen IRND vs. Tiffen T1 vs. Rosco IR.
We tested every combination we could get our hands on from the local rental houses in Toronto.
I would like at this point to thank PS Productions Services Toronto and Image Gear Inc for providing the filters and facilities for testing.

I will make a nice table in the coming days and will post the results here.
The test was done using Epic-X camera and Red Pro Primes.

WOW That sounds like something I want to see Pasha!

Please e-mail me any early findings!

I have Tiffen's also. However, I remember in Phil Hollands tests he posted and the Format was clearly outshining Schneider and he was extremely happy and surprised.

I didnt see the Hot Mirror 680 tested here, Thats the one Ive found to keep the most consistent color without going green above 1.2

Interesting. Thanks guys! Do they reject as much/enough IR at high levels (1.5, 1.8)? Are they super-reflective (the Panchros were crazy for this) causing double-reflections?

The only way I know of to get double reflections is when the mirrored side of the filter is not the outermost surface.
Any IR or HM needs to be the first surface the light hits - any other filters behind it.
Best reason never to stack multiple IR's

If anyone has a different experience, please share
