Is there a solution or workaround to the camera crash / forced shutdown when pressing record after 3.2.8 Beta "force_upgrade" update method.

Sent my log to support and they said to do the "force_upgrade" update method which I tried many times and it is still crashing all the time when pressing record. Update goes fine (I guess...) since it displays the right firmware version in the system info.

I know there is an official thread for beta 3.2.8 thread but my post always gets buried in between people talking about adding 24p 5K on Scarlet so I'm opening a dedicated thread as I'm not the only one experiencing the issue.

try rolling back and installing 3.0.7 first

I followed the recommended upgrade procedure to the Beta firmware, and I have not had a crash upon hitting record. I did, however have the camera remain stuck in record mode 3 times when media cards filled, requiring a forced shutdown. This also results in a fatal lockup when trying to play back the last clip recorded to the media when the camera is started again, resulting in another forced shutdown.

I think Red has a lot of work to do on this piece of firmware.

Thanks Jon, I tried that but it still crashes the camera.

Sorry to say this but, if you can't record not in previous builds now. I would advise to sending the camera back to RED to get checked out.

3.0.7 works great. I meant I rolled back to 3.0.7 first and re-installed the 3.2.8 and it still crashes. I thought that's what you were suggesting.

did you try rolling back to 3.07, then a reset to factory settings, and then upgrade to 3.28?

Thanks for the suggestion I just tried this that was a good idea but it still crashes. Still get the "Error: 0x0000001e / Please save log and send to RED support" when trying to record.

We've received your log, thank you for submitting it. Everything was upgraded properly on your end using the force_upgrade. We're working on rolling out a fix for the particular problem you are seeing. Until we post another update, I recommend using 3.0.7 on your camera.

The other posts are correct in saying that if you see any strange behavior after downgrading/upgrading, re-setting to factory defaults is the first step you should take to resolve any issues.

Thanks Matthew, I will wait for the fix.

I've tried replicating this without success. Have you restored the camera to factory defaults since upgrading to 3.2.8? or did you force_upgrade to 3.2.8? If not, you may want to restore the camera to it's defaults to see if you still see this behavior.

One issue is there though.. If you do record a full 256GB clip, the camera will take about 17 seconds to load up the clip for playback. In 3.2.8 the "loading..." indicator is disappearing too quickly, so it may appear that the camera is hung while still loading the clip.

Thanks for the reply. No, I have not tried that, but I will, and will update later on today. My issue occurred upon filling 64gb cards. The record tally stays on, and attempts to stop or shutdown on not permitted to work. The restart and playback fails immediately as Scarlet reports an error in playback, and the camera is locked up to any inputs, and must be forced to shutdown. I will report what I find later. Thanks again.

whew..I just recorded for the first time and I'm good. Hey red guys how about 120fps in 2K or more because the red one 120fps in 2K looks great...give us something to fight with because the epic is one baaaaad boy!
I love me scarlet tho.

Me too

Me too

I'm getting the same issues when I push the record button. I'll restore back the my previous and very stable 3.0.7

I have finally had a chance to test the stuck-on record problem with a full card after following your suggestion, and unfortunately the issue persists, with 100% repeatability. Resulting freeze and forced-shutdown upon attempt to play back persists as well.

I will add that when I followed your suggestion and did the restore to factory (this was while still in 3.2.8), I received an error notice and request to save the log file, which I did. Subsequent start ups have been fine.

In fact, the rest of the build has been solid for me, though still persisting is the very frustrating uncalibrated HD-SDI output, which has 100% white on the camera's test pattern showing up at 93.5% on my waveform. I think that video levels output remain similarly clipped.

Redmote has been very solid for me.

just to let you know...

just to let you know...

i wanna just to inform my upgrade way
i updated to 3.0.6 beta to force upgrade 3.2.8 beta and till now i don't have any problem....
i filled 89% of a 64 gigs without problems 37 clips
nothing to complain
it looks a little noisy at 1k 89fps but on default blackshade
cheers

Yeah I can fill 89% of a 64 gb card with no problems too. The problem for me and one other user here who reported the same is filling the entire card TO CAPACITY. My Scarlet stays stuck in record, even though it's not recording anything anymore, and must be forced to shut down.

No more problems here with the new build. 120fps is amazing. Thanks RED!
