  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet X as a docmentary tool - Behind the scenes + Frame Grabs.

I totally dig rally, especially dust/dirt... it just looks so badass... Have you learned to handle your low-light any better? As someone else on the fist page said, I would find it difficult to give up clean ISO3200 if I had gotten used to it as a viable shooting option. But still, 1080p supersampled from 4k can probably look pretty clean, even at ISO2000. Canon DSLRs (particularly the 7D) look like crap above ISO640, so I always thought the SX would be fine what with clean ISO800.

You should have made documentary about WRC driver instead of some amateur ;)

There are/will be a number of WRC drivers in the film, a number of shoots scheduled over the summer with all sorts of fun people.

It should be noted that Chris is also competing in at least 3 WRC events in the academy this year. He just did Portugal 2 weeks ago and Greece is next, a great dude with the great story.

But thanks for your input....

Very interesting !

I have just posted my battlefield experinces with 2 scarlett here :
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?78303-Battlefiled-test-with-2-x-Scarlett-X

The very good surprise for me is the possibility to edit directly with a macbook pro and Premiere CS55.

I had no problem with the scarlett audio wich is really not so bad (but dont use the limiter). I would like to have ND inside the camera too. The ergonomic of the camera is much better with sidehandle and Red handle on the left, even if it is more heavier than a DSLR. The editing stage is a great pleasure with the raw directly in CS55. And each picture is so nice that I would not go back to DSLR at any price.
I don't agree with you for the low light situation. Don't try to have more light in your final image than you had during your shoot, and with a 1,4 or 1,8 lense i think you have all what you need. In my test, i went with 2,8 zoom canon lenses but I wasn't in low light situation. Anyway, I had a zeiss 1.4 with me, just in case.

Matt,

Great video and a great test of the Scarlet in extreme conditions. On your video how did you get the low level tracking shots of the cars? It looked like you were below the tree line. Very cool. Was that the Scarlet too?

That was before my Scarlet, but it was on my cable cam rig. It does carry the Scarlet now.

Yea, that was over the winter - first time I actually went out and stretched some good length of rope. I should probably take the video down since it is not that representative of the current setup :)

That was Revision "1" - The test bed cable rig, and on rope, not aramid cable. I'm now on revision 4, faster, smoother, collapses easily into a Pelican and does upwards of 70mph if I have enough cable length.

Here is a nice screen grab. It has nothing to do with the film (it is a RallyCross car, not Rally) and not cable cam either. But it is Scarlet :)

Pulled from a 4kHD 29.97 motion stream. I used the power of RAW and brought the skies down pretty far with a mask, and juice up the contrast and saturation. But that's all.
