  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sound test

Sound Quality

Sound Quality

Don't if this is the same with Build 16 but it might still be of intrest.

Same in B16.

Sound Devices do make some fabulous audio recording gear.

And its not a surprise that separate sound will provide the optimal sound quality - but also note in conclusion they say :

"..the Red One’s ..audio performance is similar to many .... pro cameras we have tested.
This is perfectly acceptable for dialog, especially when hit with a good, clean line-level signal."

Stuart, does RED intend to make the microphone inputs usable?

I'm on build 16 and I tested my microphone, but to no avail...both phantom and with battery on my Sennheiser K6 shotgun.

I have used the on camera audio for a couple projects and its sound fine.
just dialog stuff, but fine none the less. I always have an audio guy with a mixer feeding line level and phantom off. No problems

I've fed the camera with a mixed Line signal and a direct mic (with separate phantom power box) and both performed very well IMHO. Having the 24bit headroom was very nice.

When I was experimenting with mike inputs I have seen only 3 bits of noise.
If the independent test shows almost 16 bits of dynamic range then it looks like we have 5 bits of headroom. This is a lot.
However do you know how many bits RED is sampling audio with?
16 or 24?
