Hi guys,

i know that this is not the ideal place to ask this (should post this on the workflow session...) But as this involves more them one topic on the workflow session i figured i could post this here and maybe also get a quicker solution as this session on the reduser has more views.

So if anyone could help me (or perhaps point me to an reduser thread where this has already been answered, (i searched, I swear!))

I testing the following workflow: Make a rough edit in premiere and them conform, color grade and export in REDCine X pro (as I can`t run Resolve on my system due screen resolution)

When I export a FCP XML out of Cs5.5 and load it in redcine X pro. it loads the clips I had in the project, loads the sequences of the premiere project but I can`t find a way to make REDCine X Pro to display the cut I had done on Premiere.

I`m not an editor and also very new to RED workflow, so i`m having some difficulty to learn all the stuf as there is not a unique workflow database and all the knowledge seen to bet spread in too many different places.

Thanks for the comprehension.

Cheers!

Personally, I edit in PPro CS5.5...finish the edit, then grade by "editing original" in redcine-x pro, then updating RMD under source settings in premiere. Just my process though, and it's bound to change with CS6 around the corner.

Another option is, and this is what I've been doing. Not sure if its the best way but it allows me to work with RAW without transcoding/exporting XMLs: You do a first grade on Redcine Pro at the time of backing up the footage, then you import the r3d files straight onto Premiere 5.5, and you edit native. You can then correct each clip on Redcine Pro and in Premiere you right click the clip on the browser window and select 'source settings'. There you can load the Redcine Pro settings and your changes will be copied to Premiere. The other way round also works but you have less grading options in Premiere. So there's no need to export a FCP XML.

Like you, I also can't load resolve and feel a bit gutted as I was really used to the FCP7 - Color workflow. What I would like to try next is to use 'dynamic link' in premiere pro and open the entire timeline in After Effects. Not sure how clunky the whole system will become. However it does present a possibility as in AE there are far more colour grading options. Again, curious on what others may have to say.

Have you tried exporting an EDL? And can you only export the sequence and not the whole project from Premiere? When going from FCP to RCX I only export the finished edit sequence as an XML file and not the whole project.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replys.

When color correcting in REDCine-X PRO and them updating the RMD on Premiere, this will not work if I work with RC3 and RG3 right? Also, I wouldn`t be able to use alchemy or the other post effects that are avaliavle on REDCine-X PRO, could I? I`m not on my machine right now so I can`t check if those itens are in the premiere "source settings"

When I exported the XML, I tried to click on the sequence to se if there was any option for exporting just that particular sequence, but i couldn`t find any. So I went to file>Export>FCP XML. This gave me on REDCine-X PRO the hole bunch of clips used on the entire project, not just the ones in my time line, it also gave me what I believe to be my Premiere project Time Line displayed as "sequence 2" (wich was actually my only sequence on that specific project) But I could not open this sequence in any way or have the cut I had done in Premiere to be reconformed on REDCine-X PRO. I tried to drag the sequence to the REDCine-X PRO time line, them a plus icon would apear but the sequence it self would not stay on the time line. I did not try to export a EDL, but I`ll have to try that tomorrow.

The fact is that I don`t really know if what i`m trying to do is even possible, I`m I really able to open an sequence edited on premiere (or Final Cut for the matter) in REDCine-X PRO (or just REDCine-X?).

Speaking on After Effects, if I wanted to grade there, should I click "send to after effects" button on premiere or this will replace my native .R3Ds files to a DPX sequence? In wich case should I again export an XML or EDL and then open it in AE?

Thanks again for your help guys.

You should be able to do that, I do that for Final Cut Pro 7 sequences regularly. When I import the FCP XML into RedCine-X Pro, I get a new sequence in RCX with my FCP sequence name that I can then freely manipulate. Your issue could just be with the way XML export is handled by Premiere.

When sending to After Effects there won't be any transcode. AE will work with the same files you're using in Premiere. The transcode to DPX only applies in CS6 when sending to Speedgrade.

Thanks a lot Jaakko,

I Just managed to do that using FCP, I`ll keep trying with Premiere.
