"2) The focus puller uses a wireless manual focus servo worn around his neck. Basically a detached focus ring, with focus marks to be executed in a given scene penciled in on the focus ring's white band. Everything was measured with a tape measure and I reckon this ring had adequate length of travel and fidelity of calibration."
I found that quote on DPReview in reference to RED. can someone please advise me where to read up on it? If this post is incorrectly placed please MOD. movie it. thanks

not quite sure what you are after ?? a special wireless focus system designed just for the red or info's about wireless focus systems in general ?

because there are quite a few. look up bartech or preston or if you want the rolls royce of the wireless focus systems check out the C-Motion systems....be prepared to spend a 100K though ^^

here is the bartech system

the http://www.cmotion.eu/ gear is amazing, costs a bloody fortune though.

Hold your breath. NAB is a few weeks away. These are tried-but-true workhorses; the new crop might be inferior, with no industry acceptance, but just might get the job done for half the price. Or could be plasticky junk. Wait.

Appart from the other crazy things i do, I'm an inventor. rather than move too far forward with an idea, I'm obliged to hunt for 'priors' . Looks like the Preston http://www.prestoncinema.com/products_FIZ-HU3_b.html is the one I envisioned but I can't divine the functionality from the photos. I'll call them tomorrow.
No surprise about the cost. Brilliance costs more ;) But can i beat it for elegance and ingenuity. Probably, but I tend to move too slow :(

What exactly is your question though? Wireless systems have been around for a while... are you just asking to see which ones are out there, or which is a good option to purchase?

If your going to make something amazing and budget friendly at the same time, this will be your competitor:
rtmotion.com The new MK3 version is coming soon.

When I was on vacation in LA two weeks ago, I dropped by Viewfactor (sound of hissing can be heard in the background). Curt and his brother assured me that their wireless FF will debut at Cinegear in June.

Super friendly guys, huge facility and shop. Got the full tour. Put my hands on most of few of the parts and modules. Hope to hell they pull it off. If they do, they will give Bartech, Preston, Arri etc a run for the money.

This video is about the Cmotion, not the Preston, but it covers pretty much everything ...

Hey Erik,
Do you know roughly what a standard 3-channel CMotion setup costs? (with or without motors, I know the Heden motors are around $2500 each)

Curious how it compares to the Chrosziel Aladin II system I've got. I wasn't familiar with CMotion... looks sexy as hell.

OK. I've seen enough, I get it now. The sophistication and control are all there but some of the mapping is reversed from my vision of this. That means... time to hit the drawing board
Thanks for the leads guys, I have some reading to do at PTO :)

I agree with Matt Ryan that MK3 is amazing and budget friendly, i ordered MK3 version costs only GBP 4315, let's say it's around GBP 5000 includes all cables and accessories...

Digital Bartech is a affordable digital system. You can use Preston, Digital M-One or Heden motors with it. Receiver is small which is great when attaching to a small camera.

we had a Cmotion system on a feature a little while ago where the transmitter end had an LCD display and you could just load different lens profiles and the system even gave you live depth of field charts. the guy who brought it on set told me it cost him around 84.000$ for the handheld unit and 3 motors and all the other bits n pieces he had for it.....bloody hell

:scared:

Quite happy with my $15k Chrosziel then... :)

Sorry, Couldn't Resist...

I can't say much, but Curt (view factor) and team are working very hard to have their new system soon. There have been a lot of changes and this is going to be something that will make preston and c-motion look like a kids toy. GUARANTEEEE...

No offense to curt, cause I love what he and Brook are doing over there, but I'll believe it when I see it. His wireless system has been coming "soon" for years... I would be surprised to see them rival the CMotion system.

Redrock's system has promised to be a "game changer" for the last few years too, and it's still vaporware. Sure, maybe they'll release it at NAB (again) but I'll be surprised if it really takes hold in the professional market with the hand controller's terribly uncomfortable form factor and limited motor support.

We shall see, I guess.

Ultimately, I'm happy I didn't wait around for these guys... I needed a system and I bought a proven, reliable one that I certainly don't regret having.

Agreed,
But Guys let's not have any negative side, let him and his team do the best

I completely agree, and I am very much looking forward to seeing what they come out with and I hope it's successful. It's hard to fully convey what I wanted to say in writing, but I hope to make it clear that I was not in any way trying to put Curt/Viewfactor down.
