Hi All,

Not sure if I'm missing something but I recently bought a Global Media Pro V Mount battery (160Wh) and Cinemaoxide's IDX battery plate. The Scarlet power indicator light is red when we plug it in however, when I press the power up button I can hear the Lens open and close but then nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Adam

EDIT: Here is a picture of the exact battery we have http://www.globalmediapro.com/att/a/2/b/l/a2blx7/li160s-big.jpg

What about on AC power?

I think you use Wooden camera V lock plate or Red V lock plate. With the viewfactor plate, the GMP batterie will work well.
I think the Wooden camera are more "Red Specific" and something in the V lock make a test that doen't work with GMP.
Strange anyway.

I think those batteries are not Red specific. GMP do a 'R' range of batteries tested on Epics, MX and Scarlets. Yours seem to be the 'S' model.

If it's hot off the charger, it may be over the scarlets voltage range. Try running down a little on something else.

Here is the link to the exact battery we purchased. The picture does not show the difference it simply has the "s" there for both models. I checked the specifications of both the normal and RED compatible batteries as well and they are exactly the same.

Interesting. I have just bought these batteries as well, they are shipping this week.

For the record though, I have had loads of different kinds of batteries (hired in) power my S-X just fine.

Keep us informed of your progress please!

Adam, I have the same batterie as you, and had the same issue. You have to change the batterie or, like me, change the V lock mount from Wooden camera to Viewfactor.

Thanks Oliver that makes for grim reading :s. I'm checking the stuff with a fellow REDuser tomorrow. Will keep you informed!

I also had this problem; other V-lock batteries would work fine, but not the Global Media Pros. After comparing those batteries with a voltmeter, I found out that the GMP batteries carried power on a pin where the other batteries didn't. After clipping the cable for that pin inside the battery, the GMP batteries work fine on the Scarlet.

Disclaimer: such a procedure should only be done by a confident technician, understanding that wrong wiring of the battery could cause damage to your camera.

I received my Li160-S (red specific) batteries this morning. I have the full wooden camera quick back and V-Lok mount system.

Everything works just fine.

UPDATE: So with help from a fellow REDuser (John Merchant) we are now up and running. Basically we performed a few tests and found that the battery was sending wrong charge information to the Scarlet. It was telling the camera that the battery was 0% charged even though it was 100%. Unusually, this only happened on our Scarlet as we also tested it on an Epic :S. Anyway, we performed a little test (covering up the data pins on the IDX plate with a crisp packet) and low and behold the camera booted up from the battery. We then proceeded to disconnect the data wire in the IDX plate and now it runs perfectly! Unfortunately it means we do not have the battery percentage displayed, but this is a small price to pay for having an operational camera.

Hope this helps guys!
