  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Suggestion: Redmote station with extended operating distance.

Just a idea about charging the Redmote battery and extend the wireless operating distance: Docking the Redmote to a amplifier module with bigger battery, lets say, to get a reach of 400-500m.
My Redmote works well until about 35m (without any bigger obstacles in the way) and I love what I can all control with it, but it would be worth ten times more with a extended operating distance.
What do you think, is it difficult to build something like that?

Obviously this would void your warranty...but $550 is not a lot for something you could potentially modify to make your life easier.

I'm about 85% sure that the Redmote uses a Blutetooth Radio with some custom Red MAC/PHY layer.

You could probably open a redmote and add an external antenna. That would be one way to do it.

Watch out for the ribbon style connector that docks with the pogo pins on the back of the redmote. I've heard TCH tried to open a redmote one time and then blame their damage on a rental. Real nice one guys.

Dan, I would prefer to see a module like this developed by Red, not as a third party item. No way I´m going to open my Redmote, I´m not very much in modifying electronic devices. I don´t know a lot about electronics.
But your idea by just adding an external antenna would be a good solution and I´m sure it would not be a big thing for Red to make a little module with such an antenna. And as I said maybe an extra battery in it.
Redmote as it is now is nearly perfect and as far I can see a lot of people don´t use it just because it looses connection easily.
