Okay so I have a battery plate that just spits out 12 volts exactly (regulated). Why is my Scarlet not starting up when I use this regulated power supply?

What kind of battery plate? If it is 12V regulated, it is very unlikely it is rated for >5Amps which is what would be needed to power the camera. Check the voltage regulator rating and the battery output rating, both need to be able to support the current the camera requires.

Thanks very much for your help. As it is a DSLR plate I'm sure it is not rated for the the amps then. Guess I'll have to figure out how to wire something directly from the battery.

Which DSLR plate? I'm using the Dyna V-mount plate which also has 12V regulated output, but it is only 2A, which is enough to run my monitor but definitely not enough to run a Scarlet camera. What kind of batteries?
