Hi All,

Been shooting since I got my camera a couple of weeks ago. Scarlet is performing like a champ for everything I've tried it with so far. Getting My side handle today so I will finally get untethered and out of the studio. I was hoping for suggestions on a , SLR type , neck strap. I often go out with my Nikon and always have the strap around my neck to keep the camera safe. Too many areas around here where tripods are either not permitted or too cumbersome so I need a light and secure option.

What options are folks her using for this type of shooting both for the strap and how to attach it to the camera?

Your chiropracter will LOVE you!

SHOULDER strap might be wiser?
What I am planning:
-most old-school broadcast cameras (betacam, Panny HDPro cams, etc) have 1/4"-mount studs threaded onto their carryhandles....
-buy a pair of these, they will then mount just about anywhere on your Scarlet _assuming_ you have some sort of top-plate and/or top handle.
-buy either the brand-specific (ie Sony, Panasonic) or aftermarket companies like PortaBrace make excellent should straps, any of which can be bought with the correct end-assembly that just snaps onto the aforementioned studs.
Beauty of this system is that the strap is very quickly de-mountable.

I recently had a shoot climbing around and underneath the Bay Bridge in SF. I needed to keep the camera strapped against my chest as we were on some pretty sketchy ladders and catwalks going over the side and underneath the bridge. We also had to use a double clip harness for our own protection as it blows up there pretty good.

I used the FMJ top plate. Made my own neck strap with 1.5" webbing and sewed some heavy duty split rings into the ends and drilled 1/4" holes in a couple of small steel plates to connect the rings to the top plate. The strap that went around my chest to keep the camera from swinging I just added a quick release in the mix so it could be easily clipped in for putting in on or taking it off. I also sewed some close cell foam to the webbing that went around my neck because with the Vmount battery it gets a little heavy after a period of time.

I'm a big fan of blackrapid - it's very popular with sports photographers, and several other strap makers have already violated their trademark/patent/whateveryoucallit because it's such a good idea. http://www.blackrapid.com/
Full disclosure, an old friend is their distributor, but it's still an awesome product!

Hi Peter

Love your lcd hood and would you share the link and its name.

Thank you.

Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions.

I suspect the Scarlet will always be in hand with the strap there as a safety. Never dropped a piece of equipment and I don't want to start with the Scarlet. The Black Rapid stuff looks pretty good. I'll need to decide on a top plate and handle to bolt it on.

Again thanks for all the input.

Just ordered BlackRapid setup.

Greg, Nuka, Jeremy, or anyone else running one of these on an EPIC/Scarlet, are you using the 1/4"-20 hardware to attach it to your camera?

I've got a gig next week with the EPIC and I'm wondering if I should have my machinist make up a 3/8"-16 piece just to be safe.
