This is a thread ONLY for all those who were unable to submit their Red 4K Portrait, The World in 4K contest for any reason. This will at least gives us a chance to share the footage we all worked so hard on. This is not for those who have submitted on time and in the running for the contest. I presume you'll want to save it till post competition results.

I will update links to each video here. Please post a link, title, and any comments to go with.

Nice Video Paul! With the exception of a couple shots, I thought it would have TOTALLY but up to snuff.

Mine didn't happy in time, unfortunately. I set myself up to need battery power which I wont have till next week and was lame. I will submit here too! Hope mine is up to Pauls.

Great work, Paul! I would say a little bit more grading to make it pop more, and it will be perfect.

Another great idea, Zhibo! Sorry to hear you didn't end up making it. I can't wait to see yours, it sounded pretty amazing. As I had mentioned to you, I've been having trouble getting streaming style codecs to render in 4K, but I'll post the closest thing I have once my trouble shooting is done.

OK, Here's mine (sort of; I only spent an afternoon shooting this and 2 weeks trying to figure out how 4K export work flows).
You can see this in 4K (or as close as your monitor can get) if you click on "watch in youtube", "change quality", and select "original".
There is some noise here because YouTube likes high compression in your 4K (go figure) and seems to take out it's frustrations on moderate shadows and large flat gradients like open sky.

(guess who made my final cut, Zhibo!)

Am still testing lenses and workflow processes so wasn't ready to submit anything for the portrait competition. I thought about putting some random test shots together, like the ones in the video below (only shorter), but I just didn't have time.

Here is my overdue entry. Titled "The World in 4K Portraits, Literally." This project was quite challenging, especially for being a new Scarlet owner and this being the first things I shot on it. With no side handle, we were handcuffed to a power outlet, I called a few trusted filmmaker friends to join in on the fun, and used my beautiful roommate Nataliya as the model.

As much as I wanted to shoot with daylight gel lights, we had to ultimately shoot tungston, due to blowing out a fuse that couldn't be switched back on. It was either way underexposed daylight or, slightly underexposed tungston. The blue channel turned out to be super noisy and posed many challenges in keying. The bulk of the problems came in post. As this was a heavy AE piece, 24gigs of RAM with no Red Rocket, and 30 layers of 4K footage just wasn't cutting it. I've upgraded to 64 gigs since then and have been able to render out, very slowly.

In the end, it was a fun and rewarding learning experience. The final video didn't turn out quite what I expected, but my team and I are now better Red shooters for it. Thanks for the opportunity, and looking forward to next year's contest.

Great concept and execution, Zhibo. It really plays well full screen.
