I lost the setting on my Scarlet to have the Menu display on my SDI Monitor. I don't have the REDMote, or the Touch LCD, only the Sidehandle, so I was wondering if anyone can note down the exact button movements on the sidehandle to activate the setting to have the menus display on the SDI monitor out? So hopefully I can repeat the button sequence and get my menus back up on my SDI monitor. I will be greatly appreciative, as I can't change anything right now!

When I originally got my Scarlet I borrowed someone's Touch LCD to get to this setting, but I accidentally changed it back to the default settings, so I can no longer get any menu display, leaving me and my Scarlet stranded...

Can`t you plug it on a normal TV via HDMI so you cam monitor your ways through the menu?

I don`t have my scarlet yet, so unfortunately I can`t help you :(.

good Luck!

Guys

I have been struggling with this same issue for a week. I finally called Red and the solution is very simple.

Call Red tech support and ask for the forced update file that makes your SDI or Hdmi monitor the primary monitor.

I cant believe that they don't have these files downloadable on their website.

This should be a sticky until they either change the firmware or post the files on the website. Otherwise the camera is just a brick with the sidehandle and no redmote or touchscreen since you cant access the menues!

I just need the button strokes to make it work again. I have been going through the manual trying to blindly decipher the buttons it takes get to the menu system to no avail. Basically my camera is a brick until I can get some help. It should be just a few button strokes to make it work, and won't take anyone to long to list out the sequence. I need my Scarlet to function...

ok, here we go:
switch on camera > press secondary menu button on SH (above the thumbscroller) > turn thumbscroller 2 steps anti clockwise > press enter > turn thumbscroller 3x clockwise > press enter> turn thumbscroller 3x clockwise > press enter > press cursor right 2x (or 1x for the HDMI) > turn thumbscroller 1x clockwise > press secondary menu button 2x
hope i did it correctly for you, not sure if the default selected buttons are the same in your camera.
good luck!

I'm gonna give that a try! Is it for firmware version 3?

JoChem, thank you for your help with this! Unfortunately the sequence didn't work for me, but it may be because I have the latest firmware, so I am anxiously waiting as well. Thanks!

so finally upgraded and black-shaded :-)
turns out there is just one tiny difference:

switch on camera > press secondary menu button on SH (above the thumbscroller) > turn thumbscroller 2 steps anti clockwise > press enter > turn thumbscroller 3x clockwise > press enter> turn thumbscroller 3x clockwise > press enter > press cursor right 2x (or 1x for the HDMI) > turn thumbscroller 1x ANTICLOCKWISE (switches SDI from preview to menu) > press secondary menu button 2x

now here's the catch: you might have already tried my earlier method, so it means your menu is in CLEAN now. best is to restore to default, but otherwise you could gamble and turn anti clockwise 2x. your guess is as good as mine on that one. BTW, for the HDMI option, the earlier method should remain the same.

good luck!!

strange though, maybe you need to restore to factory default? care for instructions how to get there :-)? i have a free day today.
and i noticed you need to be careful with the toggling on the side handle, sometimes it skips a beat

you can alternatively try this:
switch on camera > press secondary menu button on SH (above the thumbscroller) > turn thumbscroller 2 steps anti clockwise > press enter > turn thumbscroller 3x clockwise > press enter> turn thumbscroller 3x clockwise > press enter > cursor down 1x > enter
This will:
AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGN MENU SCREEN IF ENABLED When checked will assign an attached external monitor to display the menus if none are selected. (scarlet manual page 105, v 2.02)

To restore to factory defaults:
switch on camera > press secondary menu button on SH (above the thumbscroller) > turn thumbscroller 2 steps anti clockwise > press enter > turn thumbscroller 2 steps anti clockwise > press enter > turn thumbscroller 2 steps anti clockwise > press enter > ENTER
(this will power down the camera and confirms your actions. Now you can proceed with the above methods)

I just got the SDI primary monitor force update from RED support, so all is good now. That is definitely the way to go, as there are too many variables in the menus to do it blindly. It was worth a try and I appreciate your help! BTW RED support is the best I have ever experienced in any camera company. They got me the file within ten minutes of my contacting them about this issue.

no problem, perfect that you got things sorted. I have to say, although it costs, i love my red touch. THe side handle just complements it so nicely, I catch myself sometimes using one hand for the side handle and the other for the lcd.

I too have opted not to have the red touch. My ref monitor is a much better monitor, and I just don't want to spend the jack on that right now. So I am in the same boat for needing to setup the side handle without the touch. One question, how does one toggle clean feed/menu output over sdi with only the side handle? Do you create a shortcut or something that can turn menu on and off if it is not already there?
