Build 16 v3.1.2- Changes and Limitations

For all who are wondering exactly what you can and can't do with this new build...

from the Readme File included with Build 16:

Significant changes since Build 15.

* New .R3D file format - compatible with updated QuickTime Codec, RED ALERT.

* Digital Signal Processing optimization.

* Image Compression Optimization.

* Support for 4K 16:9 recordings in REDALERT and QuickTime based applications.

* Fixed high detail scene codec errors in 4K 16:9 recordings.

* Fixed polarity of audio recording relative to MIC and / or LINE inputs.

* Improved audio sample to video frame synchronization (lip sync accuracy).

* Reduced RED-LCD display tearing on last few lines in 4K record / playback.

* Addition of REDspace and RAW viewing modes.

* Updated file name structure to eliminate duplicate file names.

* Addition of Pre-Record (10 sec or 30 sec loop) mode.

* In-camera 1080p playback of REDCODE RAW 4K / 3K / 2K .R3D files.

* Improved display precision and color response of RED-EVF and RED-LCD.

* Addition of MONO mode Histogram.

* Improved accuracy of RGB Histogram display.

* Changed default Color Temp to be 5600K

* Seperation of Sensitivity (ASA) and Exposure (Compensation) parameters.

* Extended exposure times of up to 1/2 sec enabled in TIMELAPSE menu.

* Addition of Burst record mode in Timelapse menu.

* Added RED-EVF control over Audio, Shutter, ISO and Varispeed parameters.

* Changed COLOR exposure meter to reflect REDspace monitoring as default.

* Added programmable Tonal Response Curves menu.

* Support for P.C editing of file names of camera LOOK files.

* Addition of Exposure Check Strip to look around area of GUI.

* Look Around available on HD PREVIEW outputs when LCD and EVF are active.

* Improved video Genlock (Tri-Level Sync) lock for 23.98, 24.00, 25.00, 29.97.

* Added 1.85 and 2.40 Safe Action and Safe Title Protection Guides.

* Improved indiction of image magnify mode with new "X" cursor

* User programmability of A, B, C keys and USER 1, 2, 3, 4 keys

* Return to last menu position before exiting menus, when UNDO-SYSTEM is pressed

* Changed project FRAME RATE label to TIME BASE.

* Disabled auto-reset of reel counter on change of project time base.

* Added RESET # (manual reset of reel counter) in MEDIA menu.

* Changed FORCE REEL label to CHANGE # and relocated it to MEDIA menu.

* Decreased boot time.

* No roll-back of camera firmware permitted to Build 15 or earlier.


Known bugs with RED-ONE Beta Build 16 v3.1.2 firmware.

* First clip recorded after firmware upgrade may not display correctly - if so discard.

* LCD tearing may sometimes be visible in lower 10% of screen with 4K footage.

* Existing media reports "DISK INCOMPATIBLE" when mounted - reformat media to clear.

* Preliminary implementation of TONE menu (Tonal Response Curve) - expect updates.

* The Exposure Check Strip cannot be disabled - always visible when in record mode.

* In OPEN GATE mode, shutter SPEEDS 1/25, 1/30, 1/32, 1/33, 1/40, report inaccurately.

* In Timelapse, cannot use 1 sec SPEED in combination with INTERVAL of 1 sec.

* Video Genlock (Tri-Level Sync) lock for 50.00, 59.97 not yet verified.

* RED-EVF black gamma sets up incorrectly on power-up (SMPTE pluge not visible)


Operational restrictions of Build 16 series firmware.

* Image Magnify is not available during recording at 4K resolutions.

* Timecode output is not enabled on the LEMO 5 pin connector.

* Audio and Timecode are not embedded on HD-SDI outputs.

* 1080p HD-SDI outputs do not support PsF signal formatting option.

* HDMI output disaabled on playback when 1080p PLAYBACK mode is selected.

* COLOR exposure meter only operates accurately when in VIEW REDspace

* Limited GUI only available on HD Preview when both RED-EVF and RED-LCD are selected.

* EVF display with blank for approximately 3 seconds when in SYNC refresh mode:
- when exiting OPEN GATE mode
- after a change in Project Resolution
- after exiting MAGNIFY when in 4K resolution
- after a Varispeed frame rate change

* When in OPEN GATE mode, Genlock (Tri-Level Sync) is not available.

* Cannot exchange camera LOOK (.RLK) files with REDALERT! or REDCINE.
