Does anyone have some suggestions for a motorized head for a camera jib? It only needs to hold the weight of a loaded Epic, which is probable about 12 lbs.

Thanks,

Jeremy

I'd be interested in this too but 12lbs is a little optimisic for my setups (LCS,MB all annoyingly adds up). Something that feels and moves great but isn't the usual rental only offerings that are designed to take much bigger payloads.

interested to hear the sugestions?

PS Interestingly Cartoni showed a motorised Spinhead at IBC that was perfect for an Epic setup. I had a play and I was very impressed with the feel and appropriateness for an epic package. Unfortunately I checked their website (and asked their UK dealer who hadn't heard of it) and there is no mention of the product so it may be scrapped.... I suspect they had help from Mo-sys. Anyone else used a motorised Spinhead?

I was just checking it out on their website: http://www.porta-jib.com/cartoni-spin-head.htm

It's a bit more than I want to spend.

I use two different models from Kessler where I am tilt/panning a scarlet/red prime pro/motorized focus. They do just fine for what I am doing, but with actors, they can be a bit noisy and a bit "smoochy" when your over 12 pounds on the camera (i.e. you wouldn't want to mic a actor next to the camera).

There's kind of a price gap between the low end and the high end right now, with not much in the middle area, for the cost and flexibility I do like my Kessler systems though - but I do eye those high end systems and kessler's next upgrades.

I was going to go for the Kessler Revolution until I learned that they are just about to release an entirely new system called Fusion that will be computer controlled (by any device with a browser and WiFi/Ethernet) and will offer digitally mapped motors that can achieve extremely fine control. I love the philosophy over at Kessler (e.g., leveraging items for more than one use) and they've grown by leaps and bounds since I bought the excellent Kessler Crane system a few years ago. Having watched some demos of the software for this new moco system and the versatility it will offer, I'm definitely waiting for it instead of the Revolution, but the Revolution looks very good if you need something right away (and that will be considerably cheaper than Fusion). BTW, no relationship w/ Kessler whatsoever, just a very pleased customer.

ETA: I see I cross-posted w/ Patrick on the Kessler. But I guess I'm not too redundant.:-)

No personal experience but Varizoom seems like a strong choice.
