I am selling my personal Zeiss Contax Duclos Cine Mod Lens Set.

These Zeiss Contax manual lenses are fabulous and true gems. I have never rented these lenses or let anyone borrow them...these have been my babies.

I have only used them with my Canon 5dmkII and now I must part with them...I just have too many darn lenses and I don't use them as much as I used to since I Cine Moded about 11 Nikon lenses.

The Cine-Mod consist of:

Seamless solid black delrin focus gear pressure fitted for an even 360° fit. No screws, no clamps
80mm front ring with genuine Arriflex high quality rubber cap with 77mm filter threads
De-clicked, damped aperture movement.

All of these lenses have detacheable EOS mounts

These are the lenses:

Carl Zeiss Contax Distagon T* 28mm f2*- Made in West Germany
SN 5985981

Carl Zeiss Contax Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 Made in Japan
SN 6424779

Carl Zeiss Contax Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 lens. Made in Japan
SN 7394429

Carl Zeiss Contax Sonnar T* 135mm f2.8 Made in Japan
SN 6012220

Cosmetic: EXC+ Some slight sign of use.
Optic/Glass: Excellent, no cleaning marks, no scratch, no fungus or haze. No dust. Blades free of oil.
Mechanic: Perfect 100%

I will entertain any reasonable offer. Any question, please contact me at my personal email:

Thanks

These are fantastic lenses...

The 28 f/2 earned the nickname "Hollywood" because it's design is lifted directly from a Zeiss cinema lens... floating element = incredible macro focus in a wide angle field of view... such a fantastic feel. http://www.pebbleplace.com/Personal/Contax_28mm_F2_Distagon.html

The 50 is a solid performer, but the 85 is one of the most incredible portrait lenses ever made... makes everyone look good, just the right amount of Zeiss pop:

And the 135 is an incredible beauty lens, jaws drop every time it comes out of the case.

Those images aren't mine, waiting on a transcode with no access to my stills, but they show what these incredible lenses can do... with a hard mount for no play at the mount, derlin gears and apertures dampened they are an incredible set... long throw for focus, solid feel to the start and stop, much like a good Zeiss cinema lens.

best of luck with the sale mate.

to everyone else: if you're thinking about buying these, you should.

Ryan:

When you put it that way, it makes me want to re consider this sale. :)

You are right though...these lenses are incredible. I have been begged by colleagues for years to allow them to borrow the set and the answer had always been a polite refusal. Now don't get me wrong...you can have anything of mine...but some gear has been special to me.

For years I've debated if I should sell them, always opting to keep them, but I have so much lenses and gear that it makes no sense to tuck it away not to be used...maybe someone else would want to make beautiful images with their brand new SCARLET or EPIC.

Quite frankly, it a one of a kind set...and at a fair price for what they are and the mod.

Thanks for your insight on these lenses.

:)

They look gorgeous...

But if I may, and forgive my ignorance, what is the quality difference from the ones built in WG vs Japan? I guess the main thing is the body, but is there optical differences?

Optically, there isn't supposed to be much of a difference. Prestige wise, the WEST GERMAN models are valued more by collectors. I have found that the coatings on the german lenses MAY be a bit less saturated, but all in all they all cut together pretty well.

En fin. Not much difference at all. Zeiss had the same strict quaility controls in JAPAN as they did in Germany. Some of the more expensive lenses continued to be made in Germany. Hope this helps.

Yes, and they are gorgeous. I own many, because I feel like they were lenses designed for FILM, not DIGITAL. When Zeiss UPGRADED them to the ZF/ZE line, I think something got lost in the translation. I'm not saying they got WORSE, they didn't. They just became DIFFERENT. The old ones are frequently just as sharp. But the new ZE/ZF's certainly are slightly modernized designes, and the biggest difference is the COATING. The newer coating handles FLARES better, but I believe also looks more contrasty, and more "digital", "modern". Some like it. I'm a bit of a nostalgia-ist (does this word exist?), and I like the old coating (same on Super Speeds and Hasselblads). Overall they are an offardable way to buy a Zeiss set with a vintage more classic feel.

But the ZE/ZF's are superb as well, have lots of character also, and are certainly easier to buy. Just go down to your photo store! Whereas Contax lenses demand a 6 month forage across used stores, ebay and craigslist. Good luck...it's been fun...but a little tedious.

Can't wait to Cinemod mine like Coco....pretty jealous.

+1 on all of the above. Just a different look.

tempting... very very tempting...

I do love the old Zeiss look. I have some old Hasselblad's and their texture is exquisit... They remind me of Eastern European cinema (which I love). I'll think about this, Stonce Cinema was selling a set of rehoused contax's just a few weeks ago... Some lucky bastard got a great deal!

There is no quality difference between the German and Japan versions of these lenses. Both produce great images!
If I didn't already own a complete set of Zeiss Contax lenses, I would pop for these.

Good Luck!
