  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Music Video shot on my MX

Hey Scott I loved the video and the concept. I've got a couple tech questions if you don't mind answering how did you keep the sky from being too blown out I really like the gradient. How did you light that bedroom scene and what camera did you shoot the underwater sections.

Thanks guys! David I sent you a pm with a bit of a breakdown of what I did.

don't PM, tell us all, that's what the forums are for!

I thought the bedroom scene was really well done. Good band.

Haha no problem Will, here's what I did in those scenes.

I shoot at 800iso at f2.8-f4 stacked with ND. The sun was very harsh, so the sky was at a lower stop than the highlights on the bands skin. The MX handles the whole range though, so long as you shoot at 800 to give your self safety in the highlights. The sky gradient was done with a circular polarizer filter. I just turned the filter until I got the desired effect. The bedroom was shot with a kino 4 bank @ tungsten, nice and high behind the actors with flags so it didn't spill too much, and angled so that it created a rim across the males face; there wasn't enough rim light on the seductive girls face, so I had a little lite panels micro light with tungsten filter sitting on the bed between the male and the sleeping girl, it was shining up to create the rim light on her; I dimmed it up and down till it matched the kino. I had a daylight balanced light shining into the bathroom in the background, and lastly a gold fleckie catching some fill onto the lovers' faces on the camera/silhouette side. For the underwater shots, we used a very large Perspex underwater housing which fit my RED ONE. I had a 2.5k HMI shining into the water flagged off so the beam was thin, that made the rippling light beams, we also had the kino shining in front the camera end of the pool as a little fill (only to raise the level a little though, I didn't want to flatten the image).
