  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can't Update RedMote

So for those of us who don't have a pc, what is our back up option?

Currently the only way to upgrade a REDmote is by using a PC (either Windows or Mac).

Looks like I may have misunderstood the question (to me PC doesn't imply Windows :) )

The Mac upgrader should work. If you run into a problem it is usually a conflict with another network device. Please disable all network devices (including wireless) in your networking preferences tab and try again.

I tried on 2 MACs, of which neither one registered a new network device. The Redmote was pulling a charge but no other activity. Initially my win7 laptop recognized the new device but failed to install drivers so no luck there, however this morning my win7 laptop successfully installed the drivers and now i'm able to connect (as long as redlink is on and "scanning for a camera"). And yes, the firmware update was successful. Ideally, I'd like to rely on my macs for this kind of thing but...

Weber, go buy a PC! :)
All kidding aside, I would like to know what the issues were, with the Mac, as that is my primary workstation.

Come on "once you go Mac"....... Maybe I'll just come by the office and use yours

I could not get remote to connect via mac, or more accurately in network connections I could get it to connect 192.168.0.1 and it stuck, but updater would not connect to it. I turned wireless off on computer and rebooted, tried several other things, no joy. gave up, walked over to my olde windows machine, and it all went smoothly and got the update installed. not sure what was causing my issue.

Same problem here with all 3 of my RedMotes on a MacbookPro. The installer app dose not find the connected RedMote

I'm having the same problem with a Windows machine. Redmote would not show it is recognized by Windows so the installer will not connect. There is power to the Redmote when I plug it in but it only says "rescan" or "cancel". I'm guessing it is something to do with protection but I haven't taken the time to sort it out yet.

Ok, I got mine working now.

Brian Clark from Red told me: "I would also suggest adding the Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0"

This was the key for me! Good luck all.

Did anyone else have to input a subnet mask and router into the network window? I tried dozens of times to connect via terminal, and nothing worked. then i threw in a subnet mask and router and it connected right away.

why would these steps not be in the operating guide?

thats the exactly what i did, though try as i might, the redmote would not establish a connection. its all fine now, but i had to enter 255.255.0.0 for the subnet ant then repeated the 192.168.0.1 for the router. this worked nicely and now ive got 2.0.9 on all my motes!

The solve for me months ago was entering the subnet mask as 255.255.0.0

That should solve it.
