  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any Stage 3-ers NOT get their full trade in value?

A little over 6k in repairs with 346 hrs. on the camera. That's in addition to over 2k for a new video board before that.

I had $130 deducted for a fan cable. I was not aware of any problems before I sent my RED in but I consider $130 for 3 and 1/2 years of use to be extremely cheap. I felt very lucky and I get my Epic in 2 days!

Thanks for all the info, guys. I've been saving money for the last year to make the trade in purchase and have collected enough for the ~$14,000 it will take, but if there's an extra $2000+ in repair fees I honestly don't know if I can find the extra money, which would be incredibly, incredibly unfortunate.

My former RED ONE was traded in for Stage 3 by the owner, and the final bill was a $200 labour charge for the inspection. They tried to bill an additional $200 parts plus $100 labour for replacing a missing CF module, but these charges were removed when we pointed out that we had bought the CF module relatively recently, from a REDuser; the camera was delivered without one when originally shipped by RED as it was to be used exclusively with RED Drives - so we had simply returned it in the same condition it was purchased.

Stage 3 EPIC arrives tomorrow!

My Red needed an audio board. I was still very happy to get such a good trade in after 3 or so years shooting with it.

hey Tim

I've just sent my camera back for evaluation (from melbourne) and I'm a little concerned about the duty/taxes I'm going to incur. How did you go ?
my fear is that I'll end up paying duty/tax for the red ONE 3 times over.

I thought I had the only flawless R1. Around 50+ hours on the camera with 80% of that sitting idle.

Got a repair total of $145 for the rear U/I LCD.

I'm gladly paying for it. Just didn't know it was messed up.

Sound board replaced. And not being MX, they charge for the MX badge. The result was a few less dollars for accessories. But this trade in offer is still pretty amazing so I have no complaints at all.

M or MX should be irrelevant.

I bought my camera over a year and a half ago anticipating waiting maybe 6 months, so I chose not to upgrade to MX. My understanding was simply that if I did upgrade to MX, I would not get to trade it in for the value of the camera with MX, just the body as it originally was.

What RED is doing with the trade-in program is beyond generous. The camera has served me well and I look forward to the new sensor, but I hope that I should not interpret this as paying for the MX upgrade or branding as I had not chosen to purchase it that way. Peter, would you clarify?

Pierce,

I had the same concern since I did not upgrade my R1 to MX. I contacted Peter and asked what he meant. He didn't get charged for an MX upgrade...he already had the MX sensor in his camera went it was sent it...he got charged for the MX badge that goes on the side of the camera. Bottom line: no worries for you or me. We don't have to have the MX upgrade.

Awesome, thanks Matt.

And thanks again, RED, for your generous upgrade program. Looking forward to following though with stage 3 and getting my Epic out there. :)

My camera had 734 hours of runtime on it, and got blasted with a hefty repair quote. It ended up all right though and I'm getting my Epic soon!
