I have CDL data to apply to clips as I convert them through redline. However redline only lets me set the channels' gain and not the lift or gamma.

Only have access to flags
--redGain
--greenGain
--blueGain

When can we expect redline support for
--redLift
--greenLift
--blueLift
--redGamma
--greenGamma
--blueGamma

I need to use redline the command line tool, this way I can automatically apply external metadata to the export.

Redline has great potential when you use it in conjunction with a python script, or something similar. You can potentially automate your entire workflow. The downside is it's lack of support, so you end up waiting longer than your current production for the features you need, which usually come standard in REDcine.

The following redline options do not map the the "gain" in the Lift Gamma Gain section of RCX. They map directly to the Red Green and Blue Gain controls in the look section of RCX.
--redGain

--greenGain
--blueGain

I think you are the first person to ask for us to add command line options for Lift Gamma Gain wheels I will put it on the todo list. If you email redcinex at red dot com with this request I'll be sure to send you a build with this feature for testing as soon as we have it.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your quick response. I must have been sending my emails to wrong address. Now I know the right place for redline support! :)

I live and die by the redline --help page. I have a python redline wrapper with our workflow, so our offline DI is almost completely automated, and the redline part of it is lighting fast. We have two stereo productions where the DPs are color correcting on set, matching eyes, etc. This LiftGammaGain feature would come in huge for us, as color matching after the fact takes precious render time which can put a strain on dailies turnover. In my opinion, color/exposure matching the eyes is the most dramatic stereo correction one can do.

I noticed your working on an auto-color matching feature for RCX. I've spent a bit of time on this over the past few months myself and wrote a couple solutions in nuke.
It's tricky to pull off a great correction without a big render hit. The cheap-n-easy auto-correct solutions end up creating anomalies wherever edge-violations occur, or they are just too general to get a great match. I look forward to seeing what you come up with over the next few releases.

I'll send you an email with our requests!

Cheers,

Jamie

I agree that making all SDK parameters available in REDline would be the best longterm solution.

However in the short term, you could use the --useRMD argument, and modify the Lift/Gamma/Gain values in the RMD files. RMD files are, after all, easily editable XML files.

Incidentally I just tested and, although it is not an officially approved approach, it seems REDline is happy to use a very cut down version of an RMD file, which only contains the LGG section (as long as the main structure is preserved). Might this work for your purposes?
