  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K Editing Setup - Video

Nice set-up, Tom. Thanks for sharing.

Daniel, I will make a separate thread about the Origin PC soon.

Thanks to your video Tom, you just solved a problem for me, with the Addonics Mulitpler. From that I found a nice USB3 to eSATA adapter that's soooo going to help me.

Great video and information as always - thanks for sharing.

Hey Tom, after rendering (with warp stabilizer in this case) how do you get it on to the other comp... Can you dynamically link to the shot across the network?

Cheers Tom,

I'm looking in to ways of improving my current setup for working with 4K footage. I know I certainly need to improve my storage since I'm currently only working off one internal HDD in my main Mac Pro and then an old Mac Pro is being used as an external drive connected via Firewire 800.

Currently my renders out of AE are unacceptably slow - pushing for about an hour to render a minute of layered footage with some time remapped, frame blended and warp stabilized clips.

I'm debating whether to go for an internal RAID or external RAID setup and how much it's likely to improve my rendering times? I don't want to fork out on a an expensive RAID setup to find it was the layered nature of my comps that was causing my renders to chug due to lack of processing power. I just thought that seemed hard to believe when running a 12 core MacPro with 32GB of RAM but then it is layered 4k footage...

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks,
Steve
