I'm getting an error "key light out of memory" in after effects cs5.5 2010 iMac w 8g ram. I'm keying a 5k movie made from a still image sequence. Any ideas on what to do? I've searched google but found nothing helpful. Anyon seen this?

During render or while working in the app?

I've keyed 5k prores4444 without issue, but not a 5k stills sequence. RAM allocation shouldn't be much different though.

If its during the render only you could try setting the preferences to purge the cache every few frames. (Hold shift while accessing the preferences, go to 'secret' and play with the settings there)

How many layers deep is your composit?
Can you pre-comp some things render them out with an alpha and put them back in to save that ram space?

Restart AE and immediately begin the render. I've found this can often help.

Also, render out to a .png sequence with transparency. If the render fails, you can just pick up where it left off instead of redoing the whole thing. Once you have the new image sequence, you can turn that into ProRes or anything you need near-realtime.

I don't know if it effects keylight specifically, did you try going to the hidden pref menu and disabling layer cache? holding shift while clicking on preferences should open up the pref window with a 'secret' option (if you didnt know :) )

I've had comps with extreme memory problems and I would also have to turn multiprocessing off for them to complete successfully. I believe Adobe reccomends 12-16gb ram for multiprocessing on quad core

Thx everyone. I'm now rendering out 1/2 Rez on a computer with 32g of ram and it seems to be working. I will try another time for the full rez version, I just have to get started and don't have time to wait. Basically I shot a timelapse dolly move on greenscreen with 5k raw stills, converted them into a lossless 5k movie in ae, then brought the movie into a new comp and applied keylight. No matter what I did I couldn't get it to render out full res. Will try again soon, 1/2 will have to do for now...
