I'm weighing pros and cons of buying Red Armour for Stage 3 camera

Obviously the Dragon sensor upgrade will take place after the Epic X and Ms have been in service for awhile. If one upgrades to the Dragon sensor two years into ownership of an Epic or Scarlet, will the sensor be covered past the period of coverage for the rest of the camera?

It seems to me the sensor is the most vulnerable expensive part of the camera, so if I'm going to upgrade in a year or so, then I won't feel the Red Armour is a good deal. An exception would be if Red Armour also covered my Red accessories like Redmote and Side Handle, etc.

Why would the upgrade extend the period of the extended warranty? I've never seen such a thing.

In my case, in order to entice me to purchase it.

As I said, if the most vulnerable (IMO) and expensive part will be covered by the one year warranty, then into the extended warranty one may only get a year or so original coverage on the new sensor after upgrading. It seems to me the money is better spent going toward the Dragon sensor than the Red Armour, if the coverage doesn't extend the warranty time on the new sensor.

Or, just wait to upgrade to the new sensor after the full warranty of the Red Armour has run out, and have the new sensor put in at that time. I'm sure there will be a period of warranty for the new sensor, but if it runs concurrently with the Red Armour, buying the extra warranty just doesn't make sense.

If you sell the camera you loose Red Armour.
I can't see Red Armour covering the sensor upgrade.
Red are being funny about warranties these days and now make owner carry the warranty, not the camera... which is strange.

I don't read it that way. Without context, all that says to me is that the sensor is covered by the warranty. That says nothing about the warranty period, except that it begins when the camera is shipped.

It would seem to suggest the original sensor. I would expect there to be a separate warranty period for any significant upgrade. One might ask if there will be additional extended coverage offered just for the new sensor and if the original Red Armor will cover the sensor upgrade at all while it is in force.

I was assuming Gavin, being the attender to detail that he is, asked the question as you suggest to his Bomb Squad rep to have clarity. ;>)

(But yes, I was going to trust--but verify--before buying.)

I was told something along the lines that since the current RED Armor covers the brain and Dragon sensor upgrade will have it's own warranty which will ONLY cover the new sensor, the two will tie together. But you will need to buy the Dragon RED Armor policy separately.

Q: If I upgrade to Dragon in 6 months, will I be presented again with the opportunity to purchase RED armor? If I purchase RED armor and I upgrade to Dragon, will the warranty extension apply to Dragon?
A: You must purchase RED ARMOR before your camera begins processing. The warranty is extended to the sensor.

. ;)

This is interesting.

This is interesting.

Just to clarify - I don't know what the "regular" warranty will be for the Dragon. I am assuming there is one but that wasn't stated. I was told that the there will be a RED Armor available for the sensor - but it will cover ONLY the sensor.

Just wanted to clarify as I didn't want to leave the impression that there wouldn't be a "free" baseline coverage for the sensor upgrade.
