How many of my RED ONE accs can I continue to use with the EPIC? I have the cash for my Stage 3 upgrade, but all the power, media, and accs upgrades are killing me. Is there anything from my current camera I can still use?

THANKS! :)

I would have said only the bottom plate and the top mounts you cant use, but there are pieces out there that people have designed to make those compatible with the epic systems. So pretty much only the media you cant use and even then with the Red Drive Red are offering a trade in towards the 256gb SSD. Everything else you can either use or get stuff to modify it.

Andi.

Thanks, Andrew. Can you point me towards any info about adapting the top and bottom plates for EPIC? That would be extremely helpful. Also, what is the RED drive trade in offer, and is it only available for the 256gb SSD?

THANKS!

Some peoples EVF's work with the Epic, some dont so its a little hit an miss. There are several threads on here about it. Without the touch screen/side handle/redmote you are going to find it difficult to control settings. Hope that they arrive speedily for you man so you can get out there shooting.

Thanks Andrew. I'm not keeping my hopes up though. These are the kind of issues I was able to overlook the first time around. Now it's just becoming an unfunny joke. Can you put up a link or send me in the right direction for that EVF post? It's too short of a term for the search function and I've already looked over 5 pages deep and found nothing.

Does the old EvF work with the epic? Just trying to figure out a way to use the Epic I just got. Without a touch screen or redmote I'm not sure how to actually interface with it.

You'll need either a touch screen, a red mote or a side handle to control the camera. THe touch screen is the slickest IMHO. Redmote is the second choice, managing the menus solely from the sidehandle is kind of a pain. That said i beleive the old LCD will work with the Epic, but it has no controls.

Hi, Michael!

All I can say, and it's all I think it's clear about the old EVFs, is that mine (bought when my RED ONE came, Nov 2008, aprox) works just fine.

RED said it was a firmware issue with the EVFs, so maybe if it's older it won't work (but I remember someone with an older EVF which also worked). I remember someone from RED saying that you could send the EVF to have it upgraded, but for that it's better if you talk to your BOMB SQUAD REP.

Anyway, I can't find a way for you to play with the setting in the EPIC without the Touchscreen, Side Handle or Redmote, so you will be stuck with the incoming settings (23.98fps, 1/48, RC 8:1, 800ISO, 5K 2:1). But at least you can try it and get a feel of it.

Also, in my experience, no problem with the old 5.6" LCD also.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!
