  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Graeme's magic...

Wasn't that a thread about Rob though? But I don't think either Rob or myself are leaving.

Graeme

That's probably the best status update we've had this year :)

So RED TEAM/GRAEME - are we thinking that this will increase:

1) Exposure latitude
2) Noise Floor
3) Color Depth

Thanks, AH :-)

We need to massage these skin tones to perfection.
So far I am massaging talents to get perfect skin tones.

I knew that we will get something stellar born during these long could nights of Canadian Winter....:-)

I have tried massaging the talent to get perfect skin tones but sometimes I get my face slapped! :)

This RED gamma variant (together with a clean full raster 1080 HD-SDI out from 4KHD) should be a Cinematographer Gamma finally that could drive more cinematographers worldwide to shoot with Epic and Scarlet.

RED and Graeme probably know well what it should be and also what is still missing in RED look for the final digital cinema race in 2012.

Main candidates for the pole position in that race are Sony F65, Alexa Studio, RED Epic, RED Scarlet-X and Canon C300,...

Thanks Miltos for your informative response, it'll take me a while to digest the valuable information you've provided!

It's true that I could have elaborated more but it was 06.00 AM when I replied, after working all night and I just couldn't find the strength to type more.

The exposure latitude, noise floor and colour depth of our cameras are determined by the hardware and will remain as they are but with a new gamma curve there is potentially a better use of them.

So it's certain that what you were asking about will not improve but there is a good chance that the overall look of the image will.

:D
