  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New 0.95 50mm noctilux clone !

Looks interesting!

Btw, I have Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 that is a pretty good lens.

Looking forward to see some more of comparison tests,...

Calling it a cinema lens?! LOL.

Sure it can be used for video/cinema... and for many situations, there is nothing wrong with that. However, it really lacks anything that makes a 'cine lens'. If you want examples, it doesn't have other focal lengths in a matching set (build for accessories or color for matching), it still has a short focus throw (seems to be around 90*? (versus the 300* average of cine lenses)), has a bright green ring on the front of the lens which will obviously cause reflections if you put filters in front of the lens, it has a pull out lend hood.... useless if you have a mattebox, which cine-lenses likely do. It's also M-mount. Right now, I can't think of one cinema camera that uses M-Mount... no 35mm film cameras, not the Alexa, not the F65, F35, Genesis, RedOne, or Epic... ok, so the Epic has one in limited release, but that was mainly at the request of photographers using the Epic, not cinematographers. (From my understanding from Jarred's posts) In the future, Red will have one for photography peeps and the select group who use Leica lenses to shoot films. But out side of that, you have a potentially (not proven yet) good lens that does not have any characteristics of a cine lens out side of being rated at a T-stop declicked aperture

That said, the lens looks interesting. I don't object to it, nor do I object to photography lenses. I just object to the common practice of people trying to call photography lenses cine lenses. They are not. They are photography lenses used to make films or cinema. If I put a Master Prime on my NEX-5, it doesn't become a photography lens, imo.

This is still a concept Lens. Compatible with M mount, LM mount , E-mount, and micro four thirds cameras. Built with modern non aspherical lens technology. Image circle is beyond full frame coverage in its focal length and field of view of this Lens corresponds to a 50mm lens in 35mm format

May be a good contender to Modified (like Tokina 11-16). I would like to know more about it...

Random question, I'm not to familiar with the Leica M glass from Voigtlander, Leica and SLR Magic, but is a lens that is "rangefinder coupled" usable on the Epic/Scarlet DSMC system with the upcoming Leica M mount?

And sorry if it's a dumb question I just am not totally sure what "rangefinder coupled" is referring to in some of the lenses.

RF coupling won't affect compatibility but will add to cost. Coupling means that it the lens communicates mechanically with a cam which in turn communicates to an optical arrangement which creates overlapping image patches in the finder. This is almost always used for non-reflex still cameras (e.g. Leica M6).

We have just been appointed the distributor of this lens for cinema use. We have added a special stainless steel mount for extra strength and will offer the lens with gear rings for focus and iris. The lens has just gone through and intensive weekend shoot and the results are extraordinary. This is actually an F.92 lens that translate to an T.95 in use. It is the fastest 50mm.
As an aside, I find all this talk of "cinema" lenses and "photography" lenses, (whatever the F that means), to be so amusing! What counts is the image, plain and simple.
This lens will be listed on our webstore at www.spacecam.com within the next few days.

Amazing news!!!

i wonder . what's the coma and AB artifacts like when full open aperture on this lens like compared to the leica ?

perhaps you should judge it on its merits, not its nationality. I'm sure we'll be getting reviews as soon as Spacecam can push these out the door....
Agree. Never judge by the nationality, but at this price? I will 1st Find out who will win the resale value award... Lacia or Magic Hyper
