Hi Guys,

First post here! I have a bit of a technical question that I'm trying to figure out, and as of right now it's beyond my expertise. This is where you come in!

I'm looking to use a 3 scarlet setup for live events from time to time, and I'm thinking of using the TeraDek BOND to transmit video from 2-3 Scarlets depending on the shooting needs. There is a possibility that many venues will have Wi-Fi access, but can't always count on that.

My first question is if I'm transmitting 1080p video (in addition to recording to SSD) via HD-SDI, will I still be able to monitor video using either the bomb EVF or LCD monitor?

My second question, does anybody know the best way to setup audio to accompany the video for live broadcast with these devices? I'll be using two shotgun mics and a few lavs, and using lectrosonic transmitter/receivers to a sound devices 788T mixer.

Is there a better workaround / setup than this?

Much appreciated! Go RED!

-Adam

This is the reply I got back from Teradek. Can anybody confirm that this is the best solution, or if there is a better one? Thanks guys.

Cube (and thus Bond) will only do 1080p. I believe the Epic will only output 1080p or less on SDI even if you shoot 4k.

You can feed embedded audio or analog (line level or mic level) into your Cube, so you should be able to mix with Lavs. Send a wireless audio feed back from your mixer to the camera, and use the headphone out of the wireless receiver into the camera or the Cube's audio input.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for your interest in Teradek and our products !

Scarlet-X are not broadcast cameras. You can't get a real time output @ 4K, you can't get 50p or 60p on the Scarlet and you can't properly remote control everything like you would do on any EFP/broadcast cam.

I'm aware of that, but I don't need to get 4K for the streaming video, or anything higher than 24fps. I'm just talking about the technological logistics of accomplishing streaming with the equipment that I posted (or if there's other equipment that I'm not aware of).

The main point is to be able to show the events to people that won't be able to attend. I'll be recording everything for editing later anyways.

Thanks for the reply though.

Hi Adam,

Absolutely no problem to do what you want. The Epic/Scarlet will happily output 1080P via HD-SDI while monitoring itself on the LCD/EVF and save 4/5K to SSD all at the same time.

As pointed out, you will have to match the cameras best you can before you start since you have no control, but it will work fine. This has been done many times around the world with great success.

Regarding audio you will need to experiement, just make sure you are recording multitrack so you can mix the best solution in post. Best to send some reference audio to all cameras, which will make your life much easier in post.

Cool, thanks. Yea, audio is my only concern (internet broadcasting wise) if there are multiple feeds.
