I tried Spacecam Leica M/ ARC mount on Scarlet and did a quick and dirty resolution test with a few Voigtlander lenses at hand. The mount works. I am hoping to do add a few Summilux M lenses to the mix and do a color shift test as well as some real world low light tests in the weeks to come.

Totally sexy ! thanks for info and pictures !

As sexy as it gets, the ultimate portable combo. Do this lenses breathe a lot?

Sulekh, what is the thing that you put in the screw halls? Is it some kind of an adapter?I saw it in the pics,in your blog.

Togan, they are 'shims', placed between the lens mount and the camera body, to ensure the lens mount is installed at the right distance for the lenses to focus properly. I'm assuming they're used so as to avoid having to use the camera's built in back focus adjusting mechanism, which would then have to be re-adjusted whenever camera mounts are changed.

Sulekh, thanks for your initial report.

Do you think these micro lens gears made by Redrock could be adjusted to fit the Voigtlander lenses? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Stock_In+stock&Ntt=lens+gears&N=4289361521+35

Also, are you aware of, or have you used, the 'Corner Fix' program http://sourceforge.net/projects/cornerfix/ to try and fix the colour shifts that can happen when using the wider angled lenses?

Hi Les,

Thank you. I will look into Redrock microgear. I haven't used 'Corner Fix". I will try it once I shoot some stuff with Voigtlander Ultra wide 12mm. Apart from the color shift, I am equally concerned about edge to edge sharpness. I did a quick test to measure the impact of dialing sensor resolution down to 2K on effective angle of view using a Canon 50mm f1.8. It's an awful terrible lens especially when looking into direct sunlight/ lightsource.

Thanks for the pictures Sulekh, they show well how the effective field of view changes.

From the reviews I've read, the wider Voigtlander lenses aren't uniformly sharp from edge to edge, but they vary from very sharp in the middle to just sharp on the edges, rather than from sharp in the middle to soft on the edges, if you know what I mean. Will be interesting to see what you find in your own testing.

There's another option here for lens gears that might fit the Voigtlander and Leica lenses - http://www.shoot35.com/products/cinefocus/lensgear/flexigearframe.html In fact they might be better suited than the Redrock Microgears if they're narrower like they appear to be. That gap they have in their extenders might also be useful for getting around the focussing lever built in to some lenses. They don't seem to have a focussing lever that can be added on for hand operation like the Redrock Microgears do (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...69_0001_2_069_0001_Nano_Focus_Zoom_Lever.html) but that might not be an issue for those using a follow-focus system.

Les,

I got to make this choice early on about my go to SLR lenses- Primes & Zooms (Canon/ Leica M/ R/ Zeiss) and that's why I hope to put them through all kinds of scenarios. Hopefully I will receive my cine zooms in a few months. The prospect of shooting on Cine lenses is seeming increasingly irresistible...I am not sure if SLR lenses will resolve to the optimal capacity of the sensor. I shot this magic hour on the day I received the camera (without Black Calibration or grade). While I am able to magnify a close up shot(4X), I am not sure I could do the same with this wide shot(the details are lacking). I will try post a 4X comparison soon.

Do you have contact info for spacecam? I have some questions for them but can't find an email address or phone number on their site.
thanks,
Sam

Sam, I think store@spacecam.com works. Spacecam are sort of split into two websites, one being their store, and the other their regular website which has contact details - http://spacecam.com/contact/

If your questions are of a non-personal nature maybe you could share them here and add to the info we have about the Spacecam mounts and lenses. Their mounts have been out for a while but I don't recall ever seeing any actual pictures or footage from anyone who's used one on a Scarlet or Epic.
