Hi All,

First.

I LOVE MY EPIC. The thing rocks, right out of the box. But, we all want to squeeze out a bit more, don't we?

Here is my wishlist for EPIC.

1. Release build that includes PLAYBACK and TIMELAPSE mode.
- Playback is great but loosing full Timelapse functionality is a bummer

2. Power Management
- Who doesn't want about 15 more minutes out of every REDVOLT? As it stands now the battery seems to be related purely to "powered on time" compared to "recording time". Meaning a redvolt lasts about 25 minutes if you are recording or not.

3. A revert to previous setting mode or A B mode.
- I'm set at 24FPS 180degree shutter at 7:1
- I swicth to 96FPS 240degree at 12:1
- One touch of the LCD toggles these two settings

4. A 16MB SSD that is RED (so everyone knows its not for recording media) that I can use ONLY FOR FIRMWARE UPGRADES

5. REDMOTE Range increase

6. Full Metadata support with PL mount glass

RCX PRO (post production)

1. FCP X I/O (roundtripping) support -- FCP X Native R3D editing.

2. REDROCKET II or REDROCKET LITE (this would be a dream)
-a lower cost version of REDROCKET (maybe based on thuderbolt or something)

I have to say. This is a wishlist, which means that the camera is so close to perfect I needed to think of what more could make it even better.

I'm sure other folks have specific requests, but I have to say that EPIC is actually performing way beyond expectations every day.

Thanks to RED for listening...

David

All of the above plus:

Phantom power.
30 secs exposures.
Single frame shot.
Flash sync.

Agree :) phantom power and thunderbolt redrocket! But also:

- Image flip on the touch lcd so you can mount it up side down
- clip thumbnail overview in playback mode to easier find what you want to playback
- audio playback
- delete clips in playback mode
- direct full screen mode shortcut for the lcd, now you can assign a lcd toggle to a shortcut, but assigning one specific mode would be even nicer :)
- A PRORES MODULE!!! Which just clicks to the back and records everything the same incl varispeed to user selectable prores codec on an CF or RED SSD card. I'm really dying for this last one as its the main reason not to shoot epic and go Alexa route. Alot of jobs would get easier with this module...
- h264 zero delay wireless streaming to ipad/iphone module would be awedome!
- Red 50-150 v2 lens, my 17-50 is feeling really alone missing his big brother :(

Nothing impossible or totally unrealistic i think, red can make it happen hopefully ;)

Almost forgot:
Wireless follow focus for Canon lenses (once known as Redmote Pro).
Nothing fancy, like the Impero.

I'd like to add speed ramping to this list, just like in R1.

@Max M.
ProRes modules are already there, just not from RED: there are so many recorders coming to market, like the Samurai, that I doubt it would make any sense for RED to develop their own module. Because of economy of scale, it would probably be too expensive.

i would also like to see something like davids "revert to previous setting" mode.

The issue i've seen, is you are shooting 24fps @ 6:1 compression. You switch 120FPS and are prompted (on rec) to change compression setting to 13:1. When you switch back to 24FPS, you forget to switch back to 6:1 compression... (sometimes there is so much going happening on set, that simple things get missed in the rush)

- a reminder (or automatic) to switch back to your 6:1 compression would be nice
- Possibly in the the form of a default compression and shutter setting for a project (?)
- it would also be nice if the compression warning came up when you make the frame rate change - not when REC is pressed for the first time (workaround is to test rec after every frame rate change, but this is sometimes missed on a hectic commercial with frame rate changing often, and worse when camera is on an ultimate arm with no easy way to OK the dialog from inside...... until red mote has longer range)

in order of priority:

1. Remote power on (critical for side-by-side stereo 3D)
2. Alternative SSD module placement, such as Rear SSD module (critical for side-by-side stereo 3D)
3. Cache loop recording (critical for any wildlife, particularly underwater when mag change is not an option)
4. Delete last no-good clip (critical for any wildlife, particularly underwater when mag change is not an option)
5. 1:1 Zoom/focus check while recording
6. LDS Arri Lens Data System
7. Phantom power
8. Long exposures (at least 30 s) not requiring time consuming black shading

It would be great to get in camera sharpening to crispen up a little the SDI 1080 out for use with a switcher or an external recorder.

Pawel,
I think they may be working on something like this, although I don't recall it being announced in a thread anywhere.
http://www.red.com/store/epic/product/epic-x-brain-only
Scroll down, and under the "required items" section, a rear SSD module is listed as "coming soon".

Big +1 on the 1:1 focus check.

Thanks pawel

I forgot about some of those RED one features that aren't there yet on EPIC.

2. Power Management

That's a bummer, 25min!!! So to save life, you constantly power on/off? How quick is the power on, to shoot, to power off?

Can the RED bricks be used with the epic? VIA batter belt clip or something similar of nature?

- Black shading, decrease the time or something that helps not having to wait 15 minutes.
especially in cold environments.
- Redvolt with greater autonomy, at least 45 minutes.
- Phantom Power
- Delete clips in playback mode
- Hdrx exposure control mode, the REd pro Lcd live to see the second exposure.
- Hdrx redrocket SDI output with alchemy.;)

I love this more and more RED EPIC;)

Not much of an improvement on an the Epic per se, but how about a redesign on the Red Brick? Something that suits the Epic Form factor better for both balance and looks, while keeping the same capacity?

Correction of the hd-sdi output "crop" on external recorders?

A product similar to the A Box from wooden camera but by Red?

Epic and related equipment:
Better Low Light performance
Black Shading official solution and documentation
Continuing EF mount/lens development
Leica and Nikon Mounts
Non-Glare 5" Touch Screen
Pro I/O
Quad battery charger
3D Assembly drawings of all Epic accessories showing completed rigs.
"M" heatsink and body update to match the "X" model

@Will: Yes, you can power from a RED brick at your belt via a 2B-to-1B adapter cable.
