Has anyone already tested the new Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS II USM or EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS II USM on EPIC/Scarlet ? I'm looking for a solution for Sports (Surfing etc).

The 400 II will be the lens for the ages for all things surfing/wildlife. The lab tests I've seen online are amazing. When it's available again I'm forking out

The 400 II is really expensive but would be a long term investment. First reviews are very promising. 8.5 lbs (3.8 kg) is not light lens but significantly lighter than the older version. What lens would be comparable in the PL-world?

This are both insanely great lenses, however do to the fact that I love RED's 300mm RPP, I have decided against any of this two lenses at this time, but the IS on them its really great too.

Also because I don't (YET) trust Autofocus for filming, I don't see the advantage of the Canon vs. the RED RPP especially because its more expensive too.

However I do now have the CANON EF 800mm f/5.6L IS coming home, and that will get great use, also because it is now officially the Sharpest SuperTelephoto Lens ever made by any manufacturer... ;)

Yes, the RPP 300mm is a fantastic lens and Mark Toia‘s „RED surf quicky test“ shot on RPP 300mm is one of my favorite clips here on Reduser.

Unfortunately I‘ve sold my RPP set including 300mm because I want to go the Canon route on my EPIC-X and I don‘t like mount changing in the field.
Since I‘ve ordered a Scarlet as well (on Dec 31!! ) it might be a good idea to buy a RPP 300mm (BT) and use one cam with PL mount.
