i still did not get it. what is the benefit in buying a epic-m ? i ordered my epic-x but i have no idea, what would i get more when i pay the difference of many thousand dollars ???

maybe some one can explain that to me?

thanks a lot,

norbert

The Epic M is hand machined and hand assembled. There are no technical differences between the two. Originally it was a way to get the Epic faster, before the X was available, as well as the prestige and piece of mind of a hand built masterpiece.

You get the M delivered now, the X may still take some time + the M comes with 12 more months of warranty, at a total of 24 months.

Norbert,

The brain of the camera is the same. Meaning, you get the same resolutions, frame rates, power consumption etc..

The difference is the mount (where the camera body meets your choice of lens). Epic X has an Aluminum mount while Epic M has Titanium. Aluminum is light, resistant to corrosion and strong, it is also very cheep to make because of it's wide spread use in engineering parts, aircraft construction and various odds and ends around the household kitchen. It is also the most abundant metal in the earth's crust.

Titanium is similar to aluminum yet even stronger, still lightweight but heavier than AI, 60% more dense and corrosion-resistant. Titanium is more expensive and has a more chic sounding name IMO.

The Epic M is a bit of a early bird special. If you really can't wait for X, u can pay the extra cash and get the more expensive mount. Buying Epic M, you can also beat the wait, getting the camera as much as six months earlier. Those numbers are rough and to the best of my understanding. Someone might chime in here for far more detailed facts about the mount characteristics with the two metals, but that should give you the basic idea and hopefully answer your question.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to post,

Best,

haha, wow you guys posted fast

the x weighs less. the m is available now. i dont know, are the differences that huge now (after the price increase of the x)?

Just a small correction : the EPIC-X ships with a Ti Mount as the EPIC-M. There no Al Mount for the moment.

Only The Scarlet-X ships with a Al Canon Mount.

The internal id of cameras are marked "EPIC-X" or "EPIC-M" this can mean that future firmware/software can have different features available. In any case M cameras have a bit more love i-da-box from RED :)

hi guys, sooooooo......
in my case (ordered a epic-x) the only minus is the extended warranty of the epic-m and the "exclusivity" of the epic-m.
i have ordered only the epic-x body without any mount because i ordered the canon and the pl TITANIUM mount already for the scarlet-x.

thank you very much for your answers,

norbert

Thanks for the correction, a nice surprise to find tonight nestled in my backlog of recent REDUSER postings.

I am pretty sure the EPIC X are hand assembled too. I don't think the X is put together by robots.

What they share

-internal body and all electronic components
-all software and specs

What is different
-two year warranty on M
-machined side panels instead of cast
-heavier heat sink in M which is going to be factory replaced in the weigh loss program.

Anyone claiming an m is somehow better than an x is fibbing a bit.

David

Norbert, if you purchase RED ARMOR before you make your order to Epic-X body than you'll get warranty coverage for a total of 3 years!!!!

Extended Warranty:

RED Armor is an extended 2-year warranty program for your EPIC-X. RED Armor must be purchased before order processing begins. RED Armor warranty provides warranty coverage for a total of 3 years.

exclusivity? I don't know about that... they sold around 1500 of them around the world. I know a bunch of nobodies that got their Ms simply because they could afford it... It WAS exclusive early on though. You can still buy an M if you're ready to shell out the dough!

Do you have your Epic-X yet? That's the difference.

Good one, I can just see the robos in their factory hard at work.
