  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just a quick Shout out to Ryan at Wooden Camera. Ive made 4 orders now.... the storefront is easy as pie, the products are simple/clean designs, work well and solve needs. The parts are very reasonably priced, they arrive beautifully packaged and super fast shipments (like same day as ordered). Wooden has an impressive assortment of products already and so far I've just had one item back-ordered (the time code, trigger, genlock break-out box).

Not to diminish Brook at Viewfactor, or Justin and Brian at Action Products, Ive bought from both as well and they make GREAT accessories (and Red’s products of coarse). Its awesome to have these options since we all have differing requirements, and particularly right now when so many new Epic/Scarlet owners are accessorizing at the same time and inventories get slammed. Good stuff everybody!

Still would like to see the slam dunk no-brainer mount for the bomb viewfinder, so far each (I've seen) have pluses and minuses.
 
I second this. I always receive my items within two days of ordering no matter what time of the year. Products are high quality, customer service is top notch as well, Ryan always responds to my emails and questions quickly. I just received my quick back yesterday and look forward to testing it out soon.

JUst ordered from them as well and Ryan answered all my questions almost instantly. Couldn't be happier with customer service and build quality.
 
Yes I like Wooden camera I think the next thing they make is a BNC breakout box that goes on the side for easy axis and so the camera wont get recked when the cable gets yanked. Cliff
 
wooden camera is synonym of High quality, innovative and affordable AKS...and most important you don't have to wait 4-5 months of back order to receive them..... :ihih:
 
Love their stuff.. Well thought out, easy to understand smart stuff when you need it.. I have a mix of Viewfactor, Wooden.. And ET.. Wish Ryan came out with the dovetail before I spent the $$ at ET! :-) Might buy another just to make some ACs and JIB ops lives easier, and have a backup..

Hi Eric, just wondering what your minuses were with the Wooden Camera EVF mount? I'm on the lookout for one and I like the look of their mount, seems nice and simple.
 
The Wooden Cam eye piece assembly does what its supposed to do orient and place the viewfinder where you want it, but i find where I want it varies just a bit and so the variability ie the length of the rod and slider could be almost half the size even for the smaller option, and then have less extra pieces of aluminum sticking out to jab you in the eye or not fit a space in a bag. also the swivel could be a little more complex in design so its a nice smooth rotation ready to move with your eye during a shot that has a big tilt. The red spinner is not a bad little part but seems overly complex for what it needs to do.

Its a form vs function issue that hasn't exactly worked its way into the box camera market. we have all these parts that tend to be rectangles and squares and 90 degree sharp edges, and Im longing for some shapes to conform here and there to imperfectly rounded humans. like when Aaton cam out with the LTR and likened the design to a cat sitting (conforming) on your shoulder rather then a box with a handle which was what some of the Arri stuff was like (arri 16BL). The Aaton was a revolutionary design with curves and a lovely handle that fit your hand, and the whole experience of Hand held was suddenly a new ball game. The Clutch is fantastic when adjusted properly, but its a very complicated bunch of parts needing adjustments to get to where its comfortable.

Seems with all the box cameras on the market and the bits to make them functional is somehow not as comfortable as what Aaton did 30 years ago. We have room for improvement in this arena. One guys opinion anyway.
 
Hey Erich, My machine shop has evolved a lot since last you saw anything I've made. After the new year, lets get together and see if we can come up with something that is elegant and simple and does what we want.

Absolutely agree Erich, I've ordered from both, quality products, fast shipment and excellent service.
Ryan even sent me a reminder email that my audio breakout box was back ordered, even when it said it on the site.
Way to go everyone on this.
